James Koch
Santa Clara University

James L. Koch is the Don C. Dodson Distinguished Service Professor of Management.He wasfounding director of Santa Clara University’s Center for Science, Technology, and Society, and a co-founder of the Tech Museum Awards, as well as the Global Social Benefit Incubator. He is former Dean of the Leavey School of Business and has also served as Acting Dean of the School of Engineering.

Jim was former Associate Dean at the University of Oregon, and the founding director of Organization Planning and Development at PG&E, where his department was the recipient of the National Excellence Award for contributions to organizational development from the American Society for Training and Development. He serves as a Trustee of the Bay Area Council Economic Institute, a PopTech Faculty Fellow, and an adviser for the Silicon Valley Indicators publication–an annual assessment of the economic strength of Silicon Valley and vitality of its communities.He has published in numerous journals, including: Journal of Applied Psychology, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Vocational Behavior, and California Management Review, Academy of Management Review, MIT Innovations, and Journal of Social Entrepreneurship. Jim’s research and consulting focus on socio-technical systems and high performance organizations. His interests in social entrepreneurship focus on organizational factors that drive the economic viability and social impact of new ventures, the base of the pyramid as a laboratory for disruptive innovation, and growth opportunities in off-grid energy markets.
