World Resources Institute

Kevin Short is a media and communications intern with the World Resources Institute‘s New Ventures branch. New Ventures is the WRI’s center for environmental entrepreneurship – providing business development services to environmentally-focused small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in emerging markets.

Kevin is currently a junior at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, studying journalism, international studies, and environmental policy. Before coming to WRI, Kevin was a policy intern with the City of Chicago’s Department of Environment and assisted with the implementation of the Chicago Climate Action Plan. Kevin has also participated in various international reporting projects, most recently with Refugee Lives, depicting the experiences of Iraqi refugees in Amman, Jordan. This January, Kevin will travel to Kigali, Rwanda to shoot a documentary on education in post-conflict societies. At Northwestern, Kevin worked this year to found  NU Gives Back, a university-wide day of service and civic engagement.  This spring, Kevin will complete his journalism residency at the Times Online in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Kevin’s interests lie at the intersection of media, environment and international development, and how timely technologies can couple with timeless journalistic ethos to advance a sustainable future.
