Roelof Goosen heads up the insight2impact measurement team. Prior to joining i2i on Feb. 1, he acted as specialist financial inclusion adviser to FinMark Trust, focussing on the complexities of the South African financial inclusion landscape, what type of interventions are required and how the insight from this market could be used in other southern African markets. This was preceded by a five-year stint as the director for financial inclusion at the South African National Treasury, where he was responsible for monitoring, policy formulation and implementation planning for financial inclusion in South Africa. During this time, he represented the country in several international financial inclusion forums, notable the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion and the Alliance for Financial Inclusion. Prior to that he worked in retail banking in South Africa, where he participated in the conceptualising of the Mzansi initiatives in South Africa to address the basic needs of the unbanked in South Africa and helped to establish alternative business models for commercial banks to take financial inclusion forward. He started his career as a practicing statistician after graduating from the University of Pretoria. He enjoys reading and classical music and prefers to spend as much time as possible with his three children.
