Sankalp 2010: A Showcase of Social Enterprise

The Sankalp 2010 Awards and Investment Forum is back this year to showcase some of the emerging and established organizations that have sustainable, innovative and inclusive business models with social impact. Sankalp is organized by Intellecap, a pioneer in providing innovative business solutions that help scale profitable and sustainable enterprises dedicated to social and environmental change. Sankalp 2010 is scheduled on May 4 and 5 at the Taj Lands End, Bandra, Mumbai.

In its first edition, Sankalp saw a diverse audience including social entrepreneurs, investors, business executives, media, think tanks, nonprofits and students. The Sankalp forum focuses on 5 key areas: agriculture, food and rural business, inclusive education, health, water, and sanitation, clean energy, and technology for development. Rob Katz was part of this forum in 2009 and his experience was truly great. He was overwhelmed by the number and the passion of the social entrepreneurs whose ventures spanned across sectors and ranged in levels of maturity. Some of the Winners of 2009 include Vaatsalya, Suminter Organics, DesiCrew, LabourNet, and A little World. Many of these 15 organizations have now grown in to sustainable businesses.

The finalists for the 2010 edition have been announced – 30 organizations across 5 sectors. These include some of the established businesses like Jaipur Rugs, IL&FS Education and Technology Services, TeamLease Services and emerging one’s like Mirakle Couriers, Husk Power Systems, and SourcePilani among others. This edition, like the last one, promises to be high profile event and an important one for the social enterprises ecosystem.

More information on the awards, process, program, events and sponsors is available on the website. We at NextBillion will continue to bring you updates from the event as it unfolds later in the week.
