Cost of glucometer kit developed by scientists of Bengaluru research institute is just about a quarter of that of leading brands in the market.

While lifestyle changes and regular monitoring of blood glucose levels could reduce life-threatening complications arising from diabetes, glucometer to detect blood-glucose levels are currently expensive and unaffordable for many. Now scientists at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, have developed a low-cost glucometer kit to check blood-glucose levels.

The new glucometer and its strips cost just about a quarter of the leading glucometer brands, according to Prof V Venkataraman, and Dr Venkatesh N Seshadri from IISc’s department of physics, who have developed this indigenous glucometer kit. “An affordable device was the need of the hour,” said Dr Seshadri.
