Oxfam, Visa seek wider financial inclusion for disaster readiness

Thursday, August 25, 2016

International humanitarian organization Oxfam and electronics payments company Visa called for wider financial inclusion to improve disaster preparedness and recovery among poor and vulnerable communities.

The call is line with the onset of the monsoon season as heavy rains and floods are expected to rip through the Philippines.

Oxfam Country Director Justin Morgan noted that seven out of 10 people are financially excluded or have no access to formal financial institutions like banks to help them cope and recover from the immediate impact of disaster.
