KOTA BARU: Development plans for the country are not designed to benefit only big corporate companies and rich individuals but as many Malaysians as possible, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

The Prime Minister wants to see as many Malaysians, from all levels, to participate and benefit directly from the development plans that had been laid out.

“The plans were never confined to just big players, such as corporate entities, but covered as many Malaysians as possible.

“The country is in the midst of capacity building of human capital, so to ensure its success means many must benefit from the development plans.

“It is a strategy to ensure the country?s future generations can enjoy a better living standard than the previous generations,” he said when opening the Islam Hadhari Village exhibition at Wakaf Mek Zainab here on Friday.

?Previously, we emphasised on education to produce human capital. ?

“But now, we want a higher output of human capital who are ingrained with quality and value-added principles to ensure the generations to come enjoy a higher living standard than their forefathers,” Abdullah said.

The prime minister added that his administration has entered the implementation stage of all development and growth corridor plans as.

Careful planning and the necessary funding, he said, were already allocated to ensure a positive impact.

Regarding discussions he had with renowned economist Prof Dr Jeffery Sachs, he said the economist had suggested that Malaysia play a role in leading the Organisation of Islamic Nations (OIC) towards capacity building of human capital besides poverty eradication policies.

Abdullah said among the plans are for the (world?s largest plantation) group, Felda, to invest in Sierra Leone, a war-torn African nation.

Felda has been asked to set up large palm oil plantations there on a profit sharing basis, he said, adding that it was one way to generate a win-win situation.
