Thursday, October 3, 2013

Nigerian billionaire and Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote plans to construct a 1,000-bed hospital in Kano, which when completed will be the largest health facility in the northern state, Nigeria’s Channels Television has reported.

The cement tycoon and philanthropist made the announcement on Tuesday while laying the foundation of another healthcare facility, a $12 million theater and diagnostic complex, which his charity organization, the Dangote Foundation, is building. The facility, named the Mariya Sanusi Dantata Ultramodern Theatre Complex, will be situated at a wing of the Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital in Kano.

“It is not just about creating a modern medical facility in this great city of ours. It is about our commitment to systematically improving the health and well-being which is one of our areas of focus. We believe that every Nigerian has a right to quality healthcare. We also believe that it is our collective duty to rally our resources to improve health infrastructure, support the development of health care professionals and improve preventive health measures in Nigeria,” Dangote said.
