The need for affordable medical services and a growing market for tech-based applications are driving students to develop healthcare applications in India. Over a dozen campus startups that topped various industry contests this year are breaking new ground in medical technologies.
Students of Faridabad-based Manav Rachna College of Engineering have built an automated portable digital device which collects blood and urine samples to detect diseases like diabetes, anaemia and jaundice.
“We want to bridge the gap between urban and rural healthcare delivery with our product,” said Prashanth Gupta, 20, a third-year student. Called Swasthya Sanjivani, the mobile and PC Windows application is designed to ensure quick healthcare services in remote sectors of the country. The students have also built an electronic pill box to remind patients about routine doses they need to take through audio, visual and vibration alerts.
