USAID head to step down

The administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development says he will step down in mid-February.
Rajiv Shah, who has led USAID for five years, said in a statement that the agency is answering President Obama’s call to end extreme poverty across the globe.
“We have seized upon this challenge, advancing a new model of development that harnesses the power of business and innovation to achieve this goal,” Shah said. “With this new model, we have delivered meaningful results — from fighting hunger, to educating girls, to tackling climate change, to fighting for civil society and democratic values.”
Shah, who said he is leaving with “mixed emotions,” did not give a reason for his departure.
