This Bank of America Exec Helped Create a Virtual Mentoring Program to Connect Women Around the World

She spent one week in South Africa, and one week in Belfast, Ireland.
Both trips were with different women, but the purpose was the same: To mentor businesswomen across the globe.
Katy Knox is the managing director and head of business banking at Bank of America in Charlotte, N.C. She is also a mentor who has traveled across the world to help small business owners in need of financial guidance.
This spring Knox spent a week in Johannesburg, South Africa as part of Bank of America’s Global Ambassadors Program, a partnership with the nonprofit, Vital Voices. Last year Ireland was the destination.
The program sends female executives to a different country each year to meet with local businesswomen and leaders of social enterprise to discuss their business challenges and exchange advice, stories and support.
“It’s amazing what can happen over a short period of time,” Knox said.
She worked with a mentee named Kogie Govender, the owner and manager of Express Employment Professionals, a franchised professional recruitment agency she created in South Africa in 2010. Govender is also the projects manager for a higher education institution that provides clinical training for HIV and AIDS treatment in Africa.
