FLII Central America and the Caribbean 3rd Edition

In 2015, Alterna hosted the first edition of FLII in Central America and the Caribbean, with the goal of advancing impact investing and social entrepreneurship in the region. Since that time, FLII CA&C has grown into the most prominent event of its kind.

The forum focuses on building connections between industry stakeholders, expanding existing investment portfolios, creating opportunities for social entrepreneurs, and addressing challenges to sector growth in the region.

By convening entrepreneurs, investors, corporations, and capacity developers, we hope to spark an innovative and relevant dialogue among actors of the región’s ecosystem about concrete actions the community can take to close the gaps that impede impact investment.

The two-day forum will consist of over thirty unique events including panels, keynotes, action labs, and informal social gatherings.

    FLII CA&C will:

    – Connect ecosystem actors

    – Build a pathway to sector growth

    – Activate solutions to address impediments to investment

    – Strengthen the network of individuals working in the region who are committed to creating change

    – Provide entrepreneurs with the resources they need to grow

Bending the Arc towards global health equality

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights stipulates that everyone has a right to health. Yet today, 400 million people lack access to essential health services. Thirty years ago, that number was much higher; in recognition of this inequity, Paul Farmer, Jim Yong Kim, Ophelia Dahl, Todd McCormack, and Tom White founded the nonprofit organization Partners In Health to bring high-quality health care to the rural poor in Haiti.

The documentary Bending the Arc chronicles the progress and dedication of the organization—which now works in 10 countries around the world—in tackling entrenched diseases, global epidemics, and skepticism among the global community and its institutions. Please join the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and Abbott in hosting Dr. Paul Farmer for a screening of Bending the Arc, followed by a discussion about today’s global health challenges, and the importance of public-private partnerships.
