2020 SEEP Annual Conference: Disruptive Collaboration

This year’s conference will engage hundreds of practitioners from around the world in disruptive collaboration to unlearn, learn and take collective action.

Our flagship event, the SEEP Annual Conference gathers leading global thinkers and doers, at the forefront of economic inclusion and social empowerment efforts across the world. The SEEP Annual Conference is a unique forum where we debate bold ideas and learn openly from our failures, and challenge our own assumptions to build the next generation of development solutions in and beyond market systems.

The SEEP Annual Conference will be very different this year. In response to the rapidly evolving global crisis and with our steadfast commitment to creating a meaningful and safe experience for our community, we know that the in-person 3-day conference model of years past will not be possible this year. We have decided to move to an entirely online forum with enhanced interaction and dynamic learning spaces, taking place on October 26-30, 2020.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the social and economic upheaval it has caused, has resulted in deep uncertainty and has accelerated SEEP’s own journey of becoming a more agile network and team. The 2020 conference theme, Disruptive Collaboration: navigating a radically uncertain world, embodies this discomfort.

    Agenda:

    GLOBAL SME FINANCE FORUM 2020
    SME Finance Outlook 2030

The COVID-19 pandemic has thrown the world into uncertainty and the outsized nature of the impact on governments, businesses and citizens is causing upheavals in the way we live and work, resulting in massive social and economic changes. While there are many disruptions and negative outcomes such as the unfortunate loss of life and reversals in poverty reduction, there is also the possibility for positive outcomes, as we take a hard look at ways of living and doing business that can and should evolve.

This is the context in which they offer this year’s Global SME Finance Forum, where they present and examine both challenges and opportunities in SME Finance. On the first day, we take the time to reflect on the current impact of COVID-19 on SME Finance, especially on key stakeholders, financial institutions, SMEs, fintech and policymakers. On the second day, we take a deeper look at the strategic initiatives and measures taken by individual institutions to respond to the pandemic and to better serve SMEs.  On the final day, we will examine what the future will hold for SME Finance and how businesses can evolve, and then offer ideas and thinking of ways to move more optimistically into the future.
