In Partnership With IFAD Spotlight Climate Financing for Farmers

On Friday, Nov. 13, the International Fund for Agricultural Development and Devex will host a second online event as part of the “Recovery. Rebuilding. Resilience.” series, which aims to shed light on how rural communities are facing, and often overcoming, the potentially devastating impacts of COVID-19 and other shocks to their health, productivity, and incomes.

The world’s agriculture is facing multiple challenges, including an increasing demand for food to feed a growing population, diminishing yields, and degradation of natural resources and biodiversity as a result of human activity. In addition, the impacts of climate change are posing new threats to farmers and our food systems. A warming climate could cut crop yields by more than 25%, while extreme weather events resulting from climate change can have devastating effects on farmers, their land, and their harvests.

This event will highlight the needs of smallholder farmers in the face of climate change, as well as the barriers hindering them from accessing much-needed climate finance. The virtual event will also present key findings from a new joint report by IFAD and the Climate Policy Initiative tracking climate finance flows down to the level of small-scale producers to uncover currently underserved groups.
