The Evidence Gap in Impact Investing: Why Social Enterprises Struggle To Measure Social Impact and What Impact Investors Can Do About It.

Kiva.org, a crowdfunding website that provides loans for small businesses and social enterprises worldwide, collects detailed information on the social impact practices of organizations that apply for funding. Data from these surveys reveal that many organizations fail to measure impact outcomes when measuring their social impact on customers, suppliers, or employees.

This webinar will share the results from this survey, highlight best practices in social impact measurement, identify the top barriers in deepening impact measurement, and have a transparent discussion with Sopact CEO Unmesh Sheth on ways that impact investors and social enterprises can work together to bridge this impact evidence gap.

Sopact welcomes Spencer MacColl, Director of Impact at Kiva, a nonprofit organization that deploys crowdfunded and institutional capital toward microfinance institutions and social enterprises worldwide. He is passionate about estimating the social impact of investments, conducting research studies with Kiva’s Lending Partners, and supporting innovation in the impact evaluation sector. He previously worked at the World Bank’s Africa Gender Innovation Lab, implementing impact evaluations in Tanzania. He also has worked with the Center for Responsive Politics, investigating trends in political donations. Spencer holds an M.S. in International and Development Economics from the University of San Francisco and a B.A. in Economics and Government from Claremont McKenna College.
