Greening Value Chains: Strategies for Climate and Conflict Resilience

As the global economy accelerates toward a low-carbon future, so does the pressure to resource it, with many materials required for green technologies originating from fragile or conflict-affected states and extraction linked to environmental and social harms.

While greening value chains is seen as key to delivering a just transition, there are open questions about how this process can support peacebuilding and economic development. Can investment in more transparent, sustainable supply chains reduce the drivers of conflict? And what role can donors, technical assistance, and innovative finance play in enabling this shift?

This webinar explores whether greening value chains – by improving transparency, investing in local capacity, and aligning with transition principles – can contribute to greater stability in fragile and conflict-affected settings.

    Discussion themes will include:

    • The link between greener value chains and conflict mitigation
    • Barriers to greening value chains in fragile contexts – and where solutions are emerging
    • The role of technical assistance and innovative finance in enabling change
    • What kind of capital is needed, and how to unlock it

    Speakers:

    • Anna Bittman, Task Order Director, Durable Communities and Economic Opportunities (DCEO), Iraq
    • Megan Sager, Founder, Sustainable Solutions
    • Pavel Tereshchenko, Energy Analyst, Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL)
    • Linda Wamune, Programme Director, Energy Peace Partners

    Moderators:

    • Benedikt Pollmeier-Aletras, Managing Director, Luvent Consulting GmbH – A Chemonics Company
    • Eleanor Tuck, Practice Lead, Private Sector Engagement and Climate, Chemonics UK

This workshop is part of Chemonics’ UK Climate, Conflict & Capital Workshop Series, which convenes practitioners and thinkers shaping the future of sustainable development in complex environments.
