Global Health Corps is a leadership development organization that offers a yearlong paid multidisciplinary fellowship for emerging leaders, ages 21-30, through partnership with nonprofits and government agencies on the front lines of health, in Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia, and the US.

The Data Use and Visualization Officer will be based in Lusaka and will provide implementation support to Akros projects by working with client (government and partner) staff to bolster the efficiency and capacity of in-country data systems with the goal of enabling simple data access and meaningful data learning and use. Bringing a strong understanding of the value of data, methodologies to support data uptake, the use of data feedback loops, and familiarity with various data visualization platforms, the Officer will work closely with Akros public health field officers with a broad range of technical backgrounds and will have the opportunity to learn new areas of health, education, or other sectors in order to provide the right data use frameworks. Since Akros programs constantly shift and grow, this Officer must be willing and able to independently develop flexible technical solutions that can quickly adapt and scale with little oversight.

-Work with Akros management and directors to clearly understand client needs and identify, communicate, and build solutions that fulfill those needs
-Develop data models to support building visualizations and dashboards
-Scope and develop data dashboards that fulfill client needs
-Identify and construct data feedback loops which build data interrogation and application
-Contribute to the organization’s knowledge management and innovation, including collating and codifying technical knowledge management
-Work with Akros management to develop new proposals and respond to grant applications
-Other duties as assigned

Skills and Experience:
Items indicated with an asterisk (*) are required
-Bachelor’s degree in epidemiology, statistics, informatics, public health, or other related focus*
-Preference: Master’s degree in epidemiology, statistics, informatics, public health, or other related focus
-At least 2 years of relevant professional experience, ideally supporting complex data analysis, visualization, and use initiatives for health or education programs*
-Experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis*
-Experience with data visualization software, e.g. Tableau*
-Self-starter who will thrive through exemplifying ownership and initiative. Candidate should be highly productive and internally motivated*
-Demonstrated ability to work well against complex and challenging delivery schedules*
-Strong analytical skills*
-Knowledge of global health issues*
-Experience translating complex data into accessible language through written and/or verbal presentations (e.g. trainings or concept notes)
-Past experience liaising with developers and/or users of programs/technology platforms
-Experience in informatics, especially DHIS2 database structure and Java Runtime Environments, Open Data Kit, KoboToolBox, OpenMRS, iHRIS, Frontline SMS, ArcGIS and/or open source GIS applications, and/or Commcare
-Academic training and/or professional experience in public health, particularly malaria
-Willingness to travel
-Ability to work with minimal supervision
-Self-starter who will thrive through exemplifying ownership and initiative
-Ability to work in a multicultural environment with individuals with diverse backgrounds
-Demonstrated ability to work well against complex and challenging delivery schedules
-Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
-High level of personal integrity
