Business Development Associate Job Description
SecondMuse is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented associate to support our fast growing global company. This role will support the U.S. based Global Growth team responsible for driving company global growth, marketing and communications.
Working directly with the leadership team responsible for for Global Growth, this role will support business development activities across the United States, and globally. You will be intimately involved in conversations about the direction of our company’s growth strategy, support in high priority opportunities across the company and lead the research, identification and coordination of opportunities with teams across the company.
You are highly motivated, an excellent writer, have strong communication skills, super organized, confidently curious, maintain a balance between flexibility and focus, and independently proactive. Having experience in economic development, incubation and acceleration and/or community development work is ideal.
This position is Albuquerque, NM; Portland, Oregon; or San Francisco/Bay Area, CA based. We may also consider applicants based in Pulau Ujong, Singapore. Relocation expenses are not provided.
Writing: Work with company leads to develop the strategy and coordinate our responses to opportunities. In this role you will be working with a team or independently to write proposals in response to RFPs, including aggregating, sorting and tailoring existing knowledge from across the company and writing new content to respond to specific opportunity needs. You may also be responsible for managing project timelines and coordinating a global team to ensure proposals are developed and submitted on time.
Research: Work with hub and product leads to identify organizations and individuals we should be building relationships with to find new opportunities for partnership. This work will also include leading our research to identify, evaluate and prioritize specific RFPs that we may respond to, in partnership with appropriate company leaders.
Strategy: Support Global Growth leadership and the company Partners to develop, maintain and communicate our company growth strategy, with an increasing focus on building regional incubators and designing and managing funds. This work will include managing our internal databases, conducting regular analysis of our performance and developing insights from this information to inform strategy and implementation.
Coordination: Support Global Growth leadership to coordinate global growth strategy, communications and implementation across and at all levels of the company.
Key Skills and Capacities
You inspire people with the written word, conveying complex thoughts in clear, concise and professional language in multiple formats tailored to the specific audience and mode of communication.
Grant, proposal or similar writing experience is highly preferred.
You understand that the information you need is out there, it’s just a matter of figuring out how to find it.
You have strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects at the same time. You manage your own time to make sure we deliver the highest quality products on-time.
You are self-motivated and action/solution-oriented; entrepreneurial mindset is a must.
You work best in a participatory, team-based environment.
You are a thoughtful listener with a willingness to seek and consider multiple perspectives and possible solutions.
You are committed and motivated to learn, rapidly incorporating feedback in formal and informal settings.
You have a strong grasp of innovation methodologies such as hackathons, business accelerators, incubation collaborative design and challenges.
You may also have knowledge of traditional and innovative economic development theories, principles and approaches.
You have completed a bachelor’s degree in business administration, communications, marketing, journalism or another related field and/or have 4 years of related experience.
You are highly proficient with the Google and Microsoft suites, with a preference given to someone with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) skills.
