Startle has been operational since 2010 and has built several impact enterprises under the leadership of its two award-winning social entrepreneurs. The company needs to increase its capacity to build existing and new impact ventures.
Startle wants to see their businesses thrive and expand, so that they achieve more and more impact. To do this, they are recruiting more capable people who share our passion but are also ready to knuckle down to the work.
Startle will be recruiting Business Development Managers as part of a small team in the UK to take the existing businesses to the next level. The key focus will be on raising investment for these businesses including grants, loans and equity and will include identifying, contacting and following through with suitable donors and investors. After understanding the markets, problems, solutions, business models and financials you will prepare entrepreneurial pitches to individual investors, foundations and social impact funds.

The Business Development Managers will also be key to shaping and building Startle itself in the UK. In effect it is a start-up, but with a suite of existing enterprises and potential new ventures in the Startle portfolio.

People who are driven to make a difference – to make a valid and important contribution to our world – and who want to be part of a dynamic international team. You may have an entrepreneurial leaning but this is not essential. You must, however, be able to work in, what is in effect, a lean start-up.
You are good at developing written and presented arguments. You will understand or be willing to learn how to develop a funding proposition or pitch to an investor. You may have experience or interest in the importance of building an on- line profile for the business – with the view to potential crowdfunding opportunities or connecting with potential customers and investors. You are diligent and systematic, able to identify and pursue potential investors, and capable of building great relationships that engage at all levels of the impact funding world.
Not only are we building the impact ventures in our portfolio; we will also be growing Startle the incubator, and would expect you to bring ideas, initiative and energy to this.
