Acumen is looking for a highly organized and motivated Coordinator to join our Business Development (BD) team in New York for a 3-month contract starting August 2018, with potential to extend for a further 3-6 months depending on need. The chosen candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the capitalization of a groundbreaking new Impact Investment Fund that will develop and scale innovations at the nexus of poverty and climate impact, transforming the lives of 10 million people living in rural poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Who You Are
You are an energetic multi-tasker and team player with excellent organization skills, a strong analytical mind and an unwavering attention to detail. You are a self-starter with the confidence to work effectively with clear guidance but not constant supervision, and the flexibility to support a small but exceptionally busy team dispersed over four continents and multiple time-zones. You are operations focused, with your core concern to ensure project tasks are organized, recorded and completed. Once trained, you are also comfortable to communicate politely and effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including short calls and emails with potential funders. You can move seamlessly between the responsibilities outlined below, constantly reprioritizing to ensure tasks are tackled in the most effective order to ensure the project target is reached.

This means you are dedicated to the social investing sector, have some interest in and knowledge of emerging markets, and are passionate about the work. You should find at least three of the following a source of interest and motivation: African development, poverty alleviation, climate change, climate resilience, agriculture, women’s empowerment, innovation, entrepreneurship, dignity, opportunity, philanthropy, investing.
In this role you will provide front-line support to the Project Manager of a mission-critical business development project with a fixed fundraising target to deliver by end-March 2019. Your key responsibility will be to directly support the Project Manager to ensure the team reaches or exceeds the fundraising goal by that date. We have a small and energetic team, and this is a roll-up-your-sleeves kind of role. We want someone who is hardworking, creative and flexible, and who knows how to push the envelope. Specifically, you will manage the following responsibilities:
+ Arranging internal project team meetings
+ Arranging external calls, meetings and other appointments
+ Writing up meeting minutes
+ Maintaining fundraising spreadsheets
+ Centralizing project records
+ Undertaking research on prospective funders (prospects)
+ Sending template emails and approved materials to prospects
+ Cold calling to prospects with basic qualification questions
+ Creating and modifying pitch decks, concept notes and fundraising proposals
+ Support to team in organizing fundraising events
+ Maintain accurate and consistent prospect records in Acumen’s CRM
Qualifications & Characteristics
+ Bachelor’s Degree and at least 2-3 years of professional work experience
+ Permanent authorization to work in the U.S.
+ Interest in international development and poverty alleviation
+ Proven organization and administration skills, excellent analytical skills, and strong communication skills
+ Strong computer literacy: word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, databases
+ Intellectually curious, with high energy and motivation
+ Team-player with a genuine desire to ensure the Project Manager and wider team deliver the project target
