This is a home-based consultancy with possible national and international travel

Period of association: September 1, 2017 – December 1, 2017
(Initial 3-month trial period in effect, possibility of extension)

Time commitment: Full-time equivalent, according to an agreed- upon work plan

Reports to: Managing Director

Others reporting to this consultant: None at this time

Equipment and desk expenses: All Value for Women consultants are expected to provide, and are responsible for their own laptops and cell phone equipment; as well as regular expenses required to do their work from home.

Business Management Consultant Role and Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

1. Accounting, payments and financial management
Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures
Financial analysis in such areas as forecasting, budgeting, and reviewing operational performance
Prepare accurate bank reconciliations and deposits
Prepare and complete payments to suppliers regularly
Prepare invoices and financial statements
Document and maintain complete and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions
Assist with financial reports as required (Value for Women internal, for the Board, and for projects or clients)
Maintain banking relationships, lead on account management and usage of company credit cards
Compile key business metrics and report on them to management regularly
Review taxation reports, and ensure compliance to UK tax laws, and others as applicable
Ensure budgetary and financial compliance with client and donor contracts as appropriate
Anticipate additional Business Management needs of the rapidly growing company and bring to attention of management. Innovate on systems, current policies, practices as appropriate
Manage financial policies documents and their evolution/adaptation to organisational best practices

2. Budget management
Manage and regularly prepare updates to the corporate budget
Maintain updated project budgets and share with project leads and management regularly
Adjust coding and reporting as per each project guideline, as needed
Report to management on variances from the established budget, and the reasons for those variances
Assist with the preparation of budgets for business development (proposals, applications, etc)

3. Information and Technology
Evaluate the need for new technology to meet the organization\’s financial data processing, control, and reporting requirements
Advise on appropriate technology that meets the organization\’s information requirements and financial resources
Design and manage organizational CRM platform
Lead on project management systems maintenance and support (Zoho)
Lead on company information management (filing, coding, making accessible to team on various topics related to the content of our work), according to established procedures

4. (Virtual) Office Administration
Oversee the management of contracts and other financial commitments
Monitor and update all legislation relevant to the organization, including operations and policy documents
Coordination of volunteers and pro bono experts
Facilitate travel, meeting and other logistical arrangements for staff
Active participation in internal organizational meetings, activities and processes (ongoing).  This will include efficient planning and delivery on agreed upon monthly work plans each week, as well as weekly and monthly regular calls with entire global team

Qualifications and competencies:

Ideal candidates will have a combination of the following experience and qualifications:
University education in administration, finance, or accounting. Chartered Accountant, Certified General Accountant, or Certified Management Accountant designation is an asset.
5+ years of progressive financial responsibility
Proficiency in the use of  software for accounting, databases and spreadsheets
Knowledge of office management systems and procedures
Strong organizational skills
Knowledge of the non-profit or social enterprise sector
Excellent communication skills, written and spoken, in English (other languages an asset)
Awareness of gender and social inclusion is an asset

Use of project management tools

Positive attitude and optimism about the role of small and growing businesses in generating positive social impact

A work plan will be developed within the first 3 days of every month, and agreed with Manager, and will focus on key deliverables. The associate will use project management systems (i.e., Zoho or other) to track progress each month on work plans and to report monthly progress.  The consultant will cover all costs incurred related to this role, such as computer, tablet, telephone and other regular office expenses. Previously agreed travel to carry out assignments, as well as any additional expenses agreed upon will be covered by Value for Women. The consultant is expected to contribute to any relevant taxes as per national law in their country of residence, as a self-employed individual.
