Company Description

Business for Health Solutions (BHS) is an international non-profit that applies an innovative private-sector approach to health systems strengthening in Africa. We work to develop the capacity of local healthcare organizations by facilitating remote technical assistance projects delivered by highly skilled volunteer experts from our corporate partners (large international pharmaceutical and healthcare companies).

We support healthcare organizations across sub-Saharan Africa in distribution, drug manufacturing, health insurance and health service provision to sustainably increase the accessibility, affordability and quality of health products and services.

We are a 10-person (and growing) virtual team based in Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Zambia, Ghana, Senegal, South Africa and Switzerland.

 

Job Description

We are seeking a Client Engagement Manager – East Africa to drive outreach, develop strong relationships with healthcare enterprises, and facilitate virtual technical assistance (TA) projects. This role is critical in identifying and engaging private healthcare organizations, helping them articulate their technical needs, and supporting them through the full TA project cycle—including onboarding, compliance, and due diligence processes.

The ideal candidate has strong technical knowledge in the healthcare sector, understands challenges faced by private healthcare enterprises, and can communicate complex technical issues clearly and concisely to diverse stakeholders—both internally and externally.

 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Client Outreach & Relationship Building

  • Identify and engage private healthcare enterprises and intermediaries across East Africa to build a strong client pipeline.
  • Support healthcare enterprises in understanding and articulating their technical needs—even when they may not have full clarity on their challenges.
  • Develop relationships with industry associations, government stakeholders, and healthcare networks to support BHS’s mission.
  • Represent BHS at conferences, networking events, and industry meetings to increase visibility and recruit new clients.

2. Client Onboarding, Due Diligence & Compliance

  • Support clients through the BHS and corporate partner due diligence and compliance processes to ensure they meet eligibility and participation criteria.
  1. Technical Assistance Project Facilitation
  • Work with clients to assess technical challenges, develop clear problem statements and scope projects in areas such as: Supply chain & logistics, Regulatory & quality assurance, Inventory management, Hospital administration & service delivery
  • Work closely with the BHS corporate partnerships team to define expert requirements and match volunteer technical experts to projects.
  • Guide clients and volunteers through the full TA project cycle, including: (a) Onboarding and expectation-setting, ensuring alignment on project goals
    (b) Maintaining a regular call schedule and preparing clear and actionable minutes, (c)Troubleshooting technical or logistical issues

 

3. Collaboration on Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL)

  • Work closely with the Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) Officer to design project-specific metrics and gather key performance data.
  • Conduct post-project debriefs with clients and contribute to the development of case studies and impact stories.

 

Qualifications

Education & Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • 5+ years of experience in the African healthcare sector, with a mix of entrepreneurial, strategic, and operational experience
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    • Pharmaceutical manufacturing, distribution, and supply chain management
    • Private health service delivery & hospital administration
    • Pharmaceutical sales & marketing
    • Health insurance and financing models

Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Expertise & Problem-Solving: Strong understanding of private-sector healthcare systems and ability to diagnose and articulate technical challenges.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication, ability to convey technical topics to non-technical audiences.
  • Project Management: Proven experience managing multiple projects and client relationships simultaneously.
  • Networking & Relationship Building: Ability to engage diverse stakeholders, including private enterprises, industry bodies, and government actors.
  • MEL: Comfortable working with MEL teams to define metrics and track impact.
  • Digital Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and willing to learn new tools (e.g. Airtable, CRM software, virtual collaboration platforms).

Additional Information:

The position is remote, based in Tanzania, Kenya, or Rwanda.

National and regional travel (2-4 times per year) is required to meet clients, attend conferences, and collaborate with the BHS team. Travel is not expected to exceed 10% of working time.
