Over the past three years, SunnyMoney www.sunnymoney.org has been the leading ‘last mile’ distributor of solar lights in Africa, selling an unprecedented 1.75 million lights. We currently operate in Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Kenya and Uganda. Our award winning work has kick-started solar markets across five countries and is providing economic opportunity for businesses and local entrepreneurs whilst making clean, safe light accessible in remote rural areas. The Job

This senior management position will have a critical role in the development and delivery of the SunnyMoney business plan. Reporting to the CEO, you will work with our country teams and key suppliers to oversee logistics of procuring required stocks from suppliers and ensuring country teams have what they need to drive sales at targeted margins for business sustainability. The candidate must have the ability and interpersonal skills to engage, collaborate and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders and especially in relation to variables that impact on business performance.

The successful candidate will be a demonstrated high achiever with strong commercial and contractual negotiation skills, analytical skills with attention to detail and practical experience in issues of supply chain management, procurement, stores management and cost control within a multi location business in several African countries and be able to contend with a fast paced unique and dynamic business environments on a day to day basis.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with country teams and key suppliers to procure appropriate products and get the best terms that will contribute to the Group’s profitability;
  • Work to ensure that country teams get stock on time and as needed, avoiding both stock outages and slow-moving stock;
  • Negotiate best pricing and terms for the SunnyMoney group with key suppliers;
  • Take a leading role with our teams to launch new products within the group;
  • Together with our finance team, oversee maintenance of sales and stock records across the group and ensure accurate monthly reporting;
  • Support the process of recruiting staff to contribute to SunnyMoney’s business as necessary;
  • Ensure that all financial and narrative reports are submitted internally and externally on
  • time, in the correct format and to a high standard;
  • Monitor country level performance by conduct regular reviews of commercial performance of country business plans;
  • Oversee pricing strategies; and ensure that all SunnyMoney operations achieve the required margin targets;
  • Collaborate with finance and marketing teams to implement required processes, procedures, controls and reporting systems;
  • Produce regular monthly performance reports and forecasts – to support the management accounts – for the SunnyMoney SMT and the SunnyMoney Board of Directors;
  • Ensure that country teams report results in the agreed formats and timetables;
  • Proactively engage with the CEO, Operations Directors in each country and the SolarAid team in London to help ensure SunnyMoney business plans can be effectively packaged for donor support.

Person Specification Skills/ knowledge

  • High level of business acumen and ability to successfully apply commercial principles;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Detailed understanding of IT, supply chain operations and administrative management;
  • Ability to implement and where necessary develop effective systems and procedures;
  • Ability to coordinate various operational functions, to analyse and forecast accurately financial and operational requirements and to plan operations and resource management effectively;
  • Results focussed, commercially astute, bottom-line driven

  • Excellent supervisory and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to build constructive

  • Computer literacy (project planning, spreadsheets, word processing, email/internet)
  • University degree with 5-10 years’ experience in a commercial business environment with clear commercial business imperatives to be met;
  • Effective communicator, with good oral and written communication skills
