Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Communications Associate is responsible for developing and implementing a strategic communications and marketing plan that supports DotHouse Health’s goals and helping realize its mission. Within this role, the Communications Associate will lead efforts in patient communication and engagement, promoting health, prevention, and updates related to current programming and activities at the health center. The associate will ensure best in-class communications throughout the patient experience through environmental, digital and print materials, mailings, collateral, and customer service initiatives. Additionally, the associate will manage DotHouse’s communications efforts and social media presence, including engaging within the community, executing strategies to promote DotHouse Health as a provider of choice, assisting with content creation, and executing event promotion efforts.

DotHouse Health (originally Dorchester House Multi-Service Center) was founded over 120 years ago as a settlement house serving newcomers to America and helping to connect them to important resources. Then in the 1970s, again through the advocacy of local residents, Dorchester House became a community health center.

Today, DotHouse Health is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) offering comprehensive medical and behavioral health care, social services, wellness opportunities, and youth development programming. We now care for more than 20,000 people and provide over 100,000 clinical visits a year in a modern facility.

Located in the Fields Corner neighborhood of Dorchester, our diverse patient population represents a variety of cultures including Vietnamese, Latino, African-American, and Cape Verdean. Every day our staff demonstrates commitment, empathy, and cultural competence as we work to improve health outcomes in Dorchester. While we have evolved since our settlement house beginnings, we remain true to our original mission of offering care and services to promote the health and well-being of the whole person, family and community.

This position is part of the Global Health Corps fellowship. Global Health Corps (GHC) is a leadership development organization focused on building the next generation of diverse, disruptive global health leaders. Founded in 2009, we competitively recruit talented professionals (ages 21-30) from a range of sectors and backgrounds and place them in high-impact roles within partner organizations — including Clinton Health Access Initiative, Partners in Health, Planned Parenthood Global, and Government Ministries in Zambia, Rwanda, and Uganda — working on the front lines of health equity in Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, the US, and Zambia.

Strategy & Planning​:
Promote DotHouse Health services, events, and programming as needed. Leverage environmental and digital touch points to improve patient education and awareness
Develop and execute an annual comprehensive communications and marketing plan, structured by goals and audience that includes deliverables to meet organizational goals
Manage advertising relationships and develop relevant ad placements in line with organizational priorities
Work consistently to collaborate as a member of a team, strategizing and communicating with colleagues to promote transparency, efficiency, and a positive working environment
Direct market research activities to keep current on changing demographics, health care policy, industry trends, and other relevant issues in order to evaluate marketing and communication activities and to monitor emerging issues and impact on patient population
Manage the DotHouse brand and voice across all materials and messages, working with internal departments and leaders when necessary
Lead and implement key external and internal communications campaigns and activities
Develop and maintain messaging and key facts to champion the DotHouse Health story
Serve as the press officer for DotHouse Health
Develop, maintain, and leverage relationships with media contacts and keep up to date with media coverage to understand how to leverage news and trends to advance DotHouse’s priorities
Manage DotHouse’s social presence on Facebook and Twitter, developing regular social media posts targeted at a variety of stakeholders
Contribute to annual reports, departmental brochures, and other promotional materials
Prepare accurate and informative press releases and public messaging
Support staff communications, coordinating with internal teams on a newsletter and other initiatives
Act as administrator for DotHouse’s website and internal employee site, working with the Information Technology Department and relevant administrators to ensure all content is up to date and accurately reflects the organization’s goals and practices​

Skills and Experience
Items indicated with an asterisk (*) are required:
Bachelor’s degree*
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, design, or related field
At least one to two years of experience in a related field, e.g. content creation, graphic design (Adobe Creative Suite), digital marketing, social media and/or brand engagement*
Strong technology skills, including publishing, web software, and/or email marketing platforms*
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including proofreading skills – experience drafting internal and external-facing documents, correspondence, presentations, etc.*
Adept at using social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.)
Demonstrated creativity and competency in graphic design
Fluency in Vietnamese, Spanish, or Cape Verdean Creole a plus
Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to work and communicate with diverse constituents, including colleagues, patients, families, donors (including board members) media representatives and vendors
Ability to take initiative and work independently in all aspects of the job and prioritize work daily
Ability to generate and pitch original and creative ideas, think strategically, and solve problems
Ability to work with multiple projects simultaneously and deliver under tight deadlines
Must be detailed oriented and demonstrate a strong commitment to team work among staff
Must maintain confidentiality regarding agency and constituent information
