ILO Internship Programme provides an opportunity for talented individuals to:

(a) increase understanding of relevant issues at the international level by involving them directly in the work of the Office and the application of ILO principles, programmes and strategies;

(b) gain practical experience with the ILO directly related to their field of study.

The internship programme is not intended to lead to a career in the ILO. There should be no expectation of further employment at the end of the internship.

The ILO values diversity. We welcome applications from qualified women and men, particularly those with disabilities and from non – or under – represented member States. If needed, reasonable accommodation will be provided in the recruitment phase as well as during the internship to promote equality of opportunities.

IMPORTANT:

Please only apply for an internship if you fulfill the following two criteria:

(1) You have no close relative serving in the ILO.

(2) This is your first internship with the ILO (only one internship is permitted).

Background

Promoting sustainable enterprises and the creation of decent and productive work is a key area of work for the ILO. Sustainable enterprises are a significant contributor to decent job creation and income generation, and a key driver of sustainable and inclusive growth, job creation and poverty reduction. Promoting sustainable enterprises is also important for addressing climate change and environmental sustainability, as business operations have a major impact on the environment.

The promotion of businesses is therefore at the heart of the ILO Decent Work Agenda, and links with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which put decent jobs at the centre of development. This kind of development benefits everyone in the present and the future, without harming the environment.

For the ILO DWT Bangkok team, promoting sustainable business means supporting various projects in the region. This includes working to support refugee livelihoods, supporting factories making clothes and in other sectors, promoting entrepreneurship to youth and building a network of support services to assist small- and medium-sized enterprises. The team is now looking for a motivated intern to join the team to support these efforts by assisting the communications and advocacy work.

Objectives

The position would be to assist and further develop the efforts of the ILO Enterprises team in Bangkok to promote sustainable enterprises in Asia, in close collaboration with and under the supervision of the DWT’s Enterprise Development Specialist. More specifically, the intern will support the communications and advocacy work of the unit and the promotion of ongoing project activities.

Tasks

  • Write, edit or proofread written outputs (case studies, articles, newsletters)
  • Design PowerPoint presentations, fact sheets and other promotional materials
  • Support with the update of project websites and other social media accounts (such as Twitter)
  • Create/update photo album for the team in Flickr or other internal system
  • Photograph during events and other project activities
  • Set up a dashboard monitoring online KPIs for the teams communication activities (mainly based on Google analytics)
  • Any other assignment required to support the team, such as events set-up etc.

Qualifications

The candidate must be enrolled in a graduate degree programme (Master or equivalent), or in a higher degree programme, in communications and/or a related field (e.g. law, economics, business, social sciences, marketing) or have completed such programme in the year preceding the application.

Desired competencies and qualifications:

  • Strong writing skills
  • Demonstrated ability producing content for e-newsletters and/or websites
  • Demonstrated ability working with the Adobe Creative Suite and/or graphic design
  • Demonstrated ability to create and use images, memes and messaging to achieve communication objectives

  • Ability to work as an independent member of a diverse team, combining autonomy and team spirit
  • Ability to produce quality results swiftly
  • Ability to work in a multicultural and multilingual environment

Additional Information

Selection process:

The hiring unit/programme will short-list applicants. You will be directly contacted should the internship opportunity match your profile. If you have not been contacted by any department within six months after your application, you can consider that you have not been selected.

If shortlisted, you may be contacted for a written test and/or interview. The ILO may use communication technologies such as Skype, Video or teleconference, e-mail, etc for the assessment and evaluation of candidates.

Stipend:

As an intern in Bangkok, you will receive a stipend of USD 550 per month from the ILO, unless you receive funding through another institution (for example your university or a foundation). If you receive partial funding, ILO will cover the difference to ensure you receive USD 550 per month. Your travel to Bangkok will be at your own expense.

Insurance:

Please note that the ILO does not take responsibility for any costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship. You will be responsible for your own insurance coverage for illness and accidents for the duration of the internship at the duty station (in this case, in Bangkok).

Start Date: September / October
Duration of contract: 6 months (starting on the 1st or the 15th of a given month)
