Room to Read is seeking a talented digital marketing professional to join our global creative team. This is a unique opportunity to invest your skills and expertise in making an impact on two of the world’s most pressing issues: global illiteracy and gender inequality. As the Digital Marketing Associate you’ll plan, execute and track web, SEO/SEM, marketing database, email, social media and display advertising campaigns. You’ll also build and leverage Room to Read’s online presence to drive traffic, and increase engagement and conversions.

Room to Read has transformed the lives of millions of children in low-income countries across Africa and Asia, working in collaboration with local communities, governments and partner organizations, including UNICEF, USAID, the Gates Foundation and the Clinton Global Initiative. You’ll be teaming with our offices in New York, London, Tokyo, Sydney, Singapore, Zurich, Hong Kong and Mumbai to help us create real, lasting humanitarian change on a global scale. Reporting to the Content Production Manager, the Digital Marketing Associate is based in Room to Read’s San Francisco headquarters.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the global Marketing and Development Teams, plan and execute web, SEO/SEM, marketing database, email, social media and display advertising campaigns
  • Build and leverage Room to Read’s digital media presence, driving increased engagement and key conversions
  • Execute social media share requests and day-to-day social media needs
  • Measure and report performance of all digital marketing campaigns, and assess against goals (ROI and KPIs)
  • Identify trends and insights, and use them to optimize spend and performance
  • Brainstorm new and creative digital marketing growth strategies
  • Plan, execute, and measure experiments and conversion tests
  • Collaborate with internal teams to create landing pages and optimize user experience
  • Develop and maintain Google AdWords strategy/campaigns for Room to Read’s global initiatives, as well as targeted regional marketing goals, working in collaboration with our offices in New York, London, Zurich, Mumbai, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Sydney and Singapore
  • Moderate user-generated content across properties with a keen sense of brand management, collaborating with PR Manager to manage reputation risk in the user-comments universe
  • Coordinate web and social media projects across departments and teams, particularly where fundraising campaign-specific needs and marketing channels intersect, including Annual Fund, Chapters, and Corporate and Donor Engagement
  • Collaborate with fundraising teams to provide social media support for corporate funding partners



  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree, preferably with a concentration in marketing, communications, or new media technology
  • A minimum of 3 years of related professional experience
  • A minimum of one year of full-time experience in digital marketing, including demonstrated experience interpreting, acting on and reporting using analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, NetInsight, Omniture, WebTrends)
  • In-depth experience in Search Engine Optimization and Search Engine Marketing
  • A proven track record of increasing digital engagement and driving web traffic, leading to conversions
  • Experience using Google AdWords
  • Experience in optimizing landing pages and user funnels
  • Up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in online marketing and measurement
  • Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS a plus
  • Experience developing engaging presentations (PowerPoint, Keynote, etc.) a plus
  • Experience working in non-profit fundraising a plus
  • Experience developing and editing video a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Prior success working closely and building relationships with diverse groups of people
  • Effectiveness in working or volunteering in a non-profit organization that is focused on maintaining high quality work and low overhead
  • Prior experience in a fast-paced, growth-oriented global or regional organization a plus
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously and take initiative
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States; no sponsorship provided
