Are you someone who enjoys operations, organisational oversight, being behind the scenes and ensuring the cogs turn efficiently, whilst having a healthy splash of intrigue in ecovillages? If yes, read on.

Sunseed Desert Technology is a non-hierarchical environmental education project based in Andalusia, Spain. We are looking for a new Facilitation Coordinator to join our vibrant and international team.

The Facilitation Coordinator is central to the smooth running of Sunseed's organisational, financial, and administrative activities, and functions to help coordinate all 8 other educational departments, internal and external relations, and medium-to-long-term strategic development.

This is a perfect role through which to develop your skills in NGO oversight, strategic thinking, and communications, whilst simultaneously experiencing firsthand life in an ecovillage.

This role will require you to be flexible, organised, decisive and dedicated to Sunseed's organisational objectives. You will ideally have experience in financial administration, diplomacy, administration, operations delivery, and hold a basic understanding of the Spanish language. You will be willing to contribute to the development of our non-hierarchical organisation, participate fully in community decisions through consensus, and live in an off-grid community where you will both live and work. Nevertheless, it is more important you are passionate about, and committed to, the role than necessarily ticking all experiential boxes.

Here's more about what we're looking for:

Essential:

  • Commitment to promoting low-impact living

  • Excellent personal organisational abilities and financial acumen

  • Good communication skills, including ability to work as part of a closely-integrated team; and the confidence, sensitivity, patience and open mindedness to work with all members of the Sunseed community

  • Ability to set targets, identify priorities and monitor progress

  • Be highly flexible – willing to work ‘out of hours’ when needs must

  • Ability to delegate and supervise volunteers

  • Ability to live in a basic communal environment with limited resources and the desire to live and work closely with community members

  • Ability to document and evaluate work

  • Initiative and imagination for a central role in the Sunseed community

Desirable:

  • Previous knowledge if coordinating an NGO

  • An understanding of organisational structures, particularly non-hierarchical organisations and those in the third sector

  • Good spoken Spanish and English, (and/or other European Language) or willingness to learn

  • Age 25+, full driving license, for at least 5 years

  • Experience of Health and Safety issues

  • First Aid Qualification

  • Sense of humour (probably essential!)

We are looking for someone to join the team for an initial period of 1 year and to start in January 2016. The role is paid, but the financial remuneration is small. However, the rewards are innumerable and include living and working in a community based within an ecovillage in Southern Spain, with open-minded individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds, and to contribute meaningfully towards the development of a 30 year old NGO.

If you would like to apply, you can find information on our website here. We will be reviewing applications as they arrive and offering interviews on an ongoing basis until we fill the role. To apply please send your CV and a motivation letter that addresses the role's responsibilities outlined within the job description, to admin@sunseed.org.uk with the subject line 'Facilitation Coordinator application'.
