Open Capital Advisors is a management consulting and financial advisory firm that seeks to transform Africa by driving economic growth, enabling investment, and building markets. Since we founded Open Capital in 2010, we have completed more than 500 engagements across industries spanning 20 countries across Africa. We have helped our clients to raise more than $500M and achieve sustainable growth and social impact. Our Africa-based team of over 130 full-time staff offers experience from the world’s top consultancies, private equity firms, investment banks, and development organizations including The Boston Consulting Group, Citigroup, Credit Suisse, IFC, and The World Bank. We currently have offices in Nairobi, Kenya; Kampala, Uganda; and Lusaka, Zambia.

The Capital Markets team sits across all of OCA’s sectors and functions, serving as experts on financial structuring, capital raising and advisors to global clients on creative capital structures that support growth in Africa. Capital Markets also acts as a central point of contact for investor outreach, working closely with OCA’s network of over 300 investors globally and leading all capital raise and financial advisory engagements across the firm.

Open Capital has just completed a significant investment to expand our team and presence and will be leveraging our platform to grow in many areas, expanding to new markets, launching and scaling innovations like our Market Accelerator and VentureBuilder, and advising more clients on transformative capital raises and fund structures. The Capital Markets team sits at the nexus of all of these growth areas, meaning the Head of Capital Markets will have responsibility across the firm and play a crucial role in our growth.

The Role – Head of Capital Markets

As Head of Capital Markets, you will assume a senior leadership role on our team, contributing to key firm decisions, growth planning, and strategic internal priorities. You will also lead a high-impact team of ex-private equity professionals within Capital Markets to lead and grow our portfolio of work and client relationships, and act as a thought leader globally for major investor and development partner clients. For business clients in Africa, you will lead the Capital Markets team to originate and execute capital raise transactions across a range of high-growth industries and client types, including some of the most innovative deals in Africa in sectors including energy access, fintech, agribusiness, water, education and healthcare. Examples of our past work have included raising equity for venture capital-stage companies, structuring new debt vehicles for large off-grid energy companies, serving as a thought partner for donors on structures for $billions of private sector aid flows, and creating social impact bonds, among others.

This is a Partner path role and we expect the candidate to be interested in rapid growth and a longer-term commitment to Open Capital.

Our team is energetic and driven and has now reached a scale where we can achieve a transformative impact in Africa and on the global stage.

We seek candidates with the following experience:

10+ years of combined transaction experience at a fund, investment bank, financial advisory firm, or corporate – with a strong preference for candidates with Africa-focused experience and networks
Experience in building and coaching effective teams at top professional services firms or equivalent
Vision and confidence to build a truly pan-African financial advisory platform, and creativity to co-create new ideas with senior clients globally to influence large flows of capital
Ability to present and articulate complex information in an insightful, compelling and structured way
Ability to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty, e.g. leading transactions, when necessary
Native or fluent English language skills are required with preference for additional languages such as French and Portuguese
Location flexible; for roles not based full-time in Nairobi or Kampala, frequent travel expected to engage fully with our team and clients


We offer a competitive package that includes base salary, annual performance bonus, international flight allowance, health insurance, and work permit if required. Upon election to Partner, we offer an additional equity package
