About the Role
Empower Work’s Head of Marketing will be responsible for leading their marketing and communications strategy and overseeing the execution of that strategy with their team. Every day the Empower Work Head of Marketing will work to ensure they’re growing their impact by ensuring people have the tools to thrive at work.

Empower Work’s Head of Marketing will be responsible for deeply understanding the needs of vulnerable workers that Empower Work supports and developing and executing marketing plans to reach them. You’ll create, edit, and manage content, run campaigns and initiatives to reach those workers, and monitor metrics and results to determine what to scale. You’ll also help them reach and grow their volunteers who respond to workers via text and chat.


Continue to develop and ensure brand personality, tone, positioning, and messaging across all marketing efforts. This will include managing the training and oversight of the Empower Work team to consistently use these standards
Design and execute strategies across multiple platforms that serve immediate and longer-term goals of growing those served and volunteers
Develop and lead their digital marketing strategy. This will include their website and SEO, social media, newsletters, and emerging technology and communication channels as well as making sure they have the marketing tech stack needed to achieve their goals
Improve on their KPIs, including web traffic, the number of people served month over month, the number of volunteers, and awareness across their broader community
Collaborate with stakeholders including team, volunteers, advisors, board, etc to understand org needs, voice, and audience to create impactful communications
Oversee staff, contractors, and vendors to execute work to meet goals along with content creation processes, calendar, and editorial workflow
Measure the results of marketing activity to inform future decisions, advising the team on next steps organizationally
What They’re Looking For
7-10 years of experience with marketing experience
Significant experience growing and managing teams of marketers and creatives
Strong writing and editing skills
Understanding of and interest in SEO, web traffic, and conversions
Deep understanding, respect, and appreciation for the workers and communities they serve

Important Details
Location: Remote, with minimal travel 1-2 times a year to the Bay Area for team building. Empower Work’s HQ is in San Francisco.
Time: Full time.
Compensation: Dependent on location and experience. This role pays $90,000- $115,000 for candidates in the Bay Area. They adjust final salaries based on location and experience. More information on salary based on your permanent location will be discussed in the interview process. This position is exempt.
Reporting: This role will report to the Executive Director and have one direct report to start. Over time it is anticipated this team will grow and include more direct reports.
What’s the application process and timeline?

Applications Open: This application should take about 20 minutes including submitting your resume and a few questions.
Phone Interviews (30 minutes): Through October 15th. There will be 20-30 minutes of pre-work prior to the call.
Projects: Through October 15th. If moving to the project phase, you will receive a project scope that will take 1 hour to complete.
Zoom Interviews (1 hour): Week of October 18th. The Zoom interview will dig into the details of your experience professionally.
Final Interviews: Week of October 25th. These might be with members of the team, members of the Board, or with volunteers so that you can learn more about the organization and they can dig into any final questions to ensure mutual alignment.
Reference Calls: Final candidates will share 3 professional references and they will reach out to them for 15-minute phone calls.

When they started Empower Work, their staff were all located in the Bay Area. Since the beginning, their volunteers have been across the country – and the world. They are now a remote team with people in the Bay Area, Washington State, and Tennessee. This position can be based anywhere in the United States. They will gather 1-2 times a year, likely in the Bay Area.
