MCE Social Capital (MCE) is seeking a Portfolio Manager who will support all aspects of MCE’s portfolio operations, including: deal sourcing, due diligence, financial analysis, deal structuring, performance monitoring, and asset management across its two product lines:
Small and Growing Businesses (SGBs) in the agriculture value chain, water and sanitation, and clean energy sectors
Microfinance Institutions (MFIs), with a focus on rural impact and women
All MCE Portfolio Managers have a primary region of responsibility and also work in at least another region of the world, fully owning several countries.
An ideal candidate will possess the skills, abilities, and engagement that will allow him/her to quickly take over relationships with existing clients, generate pipeline, complete investment analysis, and recommend a long-term strategy for the countries under management.
Job Functions
The Portfolio Manager reports directly to the Chief Investment Officer and will be part of a team of four Portfolio Managers and three Portfolio Analysts. Portfolio Managers work with and supervise the work of Portfolio Analysts.
Lead debt finance transactions:
Business development and deal screening for MFIs and SGBs
Term sheet negotiation
Due diligence
Financial modeling and analysis
Country risk analysis
Investment structuring and risk mitigation
Approval process, including presentation of loans to MCE’s Loan Committees
Proper management and execution of all investment legal documents
Portfolio Monitoring and Analysis:
Monitor on-going financial and operational performance of clients
Analyze country risks and trends
Restructurings and workouts
Impact Measurement:
Collect and monitor social impact data across MCE’s portfolio, including credit plus services offered by active partners. Contribute to impact analysis for annual Guarantor report, Board memos, and general MCE communication.
Strategy and Process Improvement:
Support the CIO and the Senior Management team in refining the portfolio strategy (sector, geography, etc.) and enabling process improvements.
Skills/Qualifications/

In addition, the following qualifications are necessary:
Master’s degree.
Minimum of six years of full-time professional experience.
Minimum of two years of direct investing experience.
Fluency in English plus Russian, French or Spanish.
Strong understanding of financial accounting: must be able to quickly analyze financial
statements, draw conclusions and produce questions.
Thorough knowledge of Excel and ability to create complex financial models.
Strong operational experience either in agriculture, energy, business, or manufacturing processes a plus.
Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work with minimal supervision. Detail-oriented.
Strong work ethics and a team player.
Passionate about social and sustainable development.
Ideally, one year working in or with developing countries.
Willingness to travel about 6-8 times (8-16 weeks) a year (in a normal year)
Location:
