About Lean Data
In addition to investing in companies, Acumen also works on initiatives that create wider change in the social sector. One of our leading initiatives is the development, execution and promotion of our cutting-edge social performance and customer insights data service called Lean Data. We built Lean Data to help companies more effectively listen to customers and to incorporate impact measurement and customer-centricity into business as usual. Using low-cost technology and methods, Lean Data gathers high-quality data quickly and efficiently, directly from end-customers. To date, Acumen has spread Lean Data across the whole of its own portfolio and since 2016, we began implementing Lean Data for external clients such as Omidyar Network, DFID/CDC, Injaro, SEDF, The Gates Foundation and others.
About the Role
The Lean Data Senior Associate will support our Manager of Lean Data in managing activities related to a multimillion dollar grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) , and through this work and beyond in furthering our understanding of the impact of agricultural businesses across geographies. The role will afford opportunities for project and stakeholder management, development and execution of a first of its kind approach to performance measurement for agri-businesses, front line data collection and interaction with some of the world’s most exciting and impactful social enterprises, funds and foundations working across the developing world.
Specifically, the Lean Data Senior Associate will:
Manage activities under the grant from BMGF to Lean Data:
+ Develop a plan and work with stakeholders within and outside BMGF and Acumen to ensure timely execution of the grant activities including Lean Data projects within BMGF, impact evaluation and technical assistance support to the World Poultry Foundation grantees.
+ Manage communication with all stakeholders involved with the grant at regular intervals and meet reporting requirements (financial and otherwise) related to the grant, including monthly, quarterly and annual updates to the Gates Foundation and its grantees.
+ Coordinate with regional Lean Data teams to develop a clear process to oversee training, quality data collection, and analysis and insights generation for all BMGF Lean Data projects. For each project, present the insights in a compelling way that helps the BMGF grantee understand their impact and make decisions based on the data.
+ Synthesize the insights from all projects at BMGF into meaningful cluster-level insights to help the foundation teams see performance trends and identify ways in which they can improve.
Support growth and development of Lean Data insights in Agriculture & beyond:
+ Learning and Communication: Develop ideas to collect and synthesize informative and actionable insights in Agriculture. Work with the local and global communications teams at Acumen and our partners to share these insights and raise the visibility of Lean Data.
+ Experiment & Innovate: Help the Lean Data team to constantly innovate our methods and approaches, for example testing new data collection methods to reach farmers in remote areas in effective ways or R&D projects and experiments to increase the effectiveness of Lean Data in leading to business outcomes such as increased sales, customer satisfaction, and impact.
+ Lean Data for Agriculture: Support the execution of Lean Data projects within Acumen’s Agriculture portfolio and with other external clients.
+ Partnership Development: Support business development for Lean Data in Agriculture with impact investing funds and foundations looking to develop a deeper understanding of the impact of their investees or projects.
