The Wikimedia Foundation is a people first organization, and the People Operations team within their Talent & Culture department is at the forefront of supporting their staff throughout the employee lifecycle. They are searching for a People Operations Manager to provide HR expertise in US compliance and benefits during a new parent leave and potentially beyond for a period of 6 to 12 months. This role will manage the members of People Ops team in the US and provide expertise on US-based employment regulations, HR policies, US benefits regulations, and HR compliance across different states where their employees are based. In addition to a deep understanding of HR, this individual will incorporate their people-first philosophy and organizational values to serve foundation staff.
This fully remote role can be based anywhere in the USA and has flexible hours completing all operational tasks.
In the absence of the current manager, lead and manage the team supporting the employee life-cycle processes in the US such as onboarding, off-boarding, benefits, and wellbeing programs, while maintaining vendor relationships
Oversee and ensure compliance with all Federal and State laws and queries for US employees. Work closely with the payroll, legal and finance teams to monitor compliance and address employee questions.
Manage hire to retire employee life-cycle processes for the People Ops team, working closely with Payroll and Legal
Execute and contribute to the development and iteration of their organizational policies and practices
Ensure timely updating of data on the HRIS (Namely). Provide inputs to optimize processes on the HRIS (Namely) and work on the implementation of approved processes.
Oversee the benefits program for US employees including working closely with with Senior People Operations Specialist, managing vendors relationships, and internal partnerships
Work with the broader People Operations team on various projects to create harmonized processes and programs for a global impact
Partner cross-functionally with other department functions such as Recruiting, People Experience, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) on different initiatives
Skills & Experience:
8+ years of progressive operations experience in human resources including managing a distributed team with scope across the US states
Must demonstrate solid knowledge of benefits programs and compliance with employment practices across multiple states in the USA, particularly in California
BA/BS or equivalent degree
Proven track record to partner cross-functionally and build consensus within a team
Experience managing operations at scale and within SLAs while handling confidential/sensitive information with grace and care
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, including being adaptable to work with a variety of personalities and nationalities
Able to work in an open and collaborative environment, while respecting human resources confidentiality
Nice to have:
Experience in a non-profit environment
Ability to work remotely and in a flexible manner across different US time zones and with a globally distributed organization
Familiarity with Namely HRIS, payroll, and benefits
Sense of humor is always valued!
