Ensuring the growth and impact of Agora in Latin America, the Managing Director will lead Agora’s accelerator programs to find high-potential entrepreneurs, provide them valuable business and investment consulting, and ensure the flow of capital from mission-driven investors to fast-growing social enterprises. In this role, the Director will guide the evolution of the organization within the region, including strengthening Agora’s business model and engaging in ongoing business development opportunities.

The Managing Director will have a critical leadership role, managing Agora’s Latin America team and building a lasting team culture based on our core values of agency, empathy, curiosity, and perseverance. The Director will serve as a leader, problem solver, connector, and partner for members of the Agora’s Latin America team, with overall responsibility for ensuring delivery of services to our stakeholders. In this role, the Managing Director will report directly to Agora’s CEO.

Responsibilities and expectations will include, but may not be limited to, the following:

– Programs Strategy and Oversight
– Program design and execution: Oversee Accelerator program design and execution in collaboration with program manager. Oversee development of new programs at regional and country level, improving accelerator methodology and enhancing services for entrepreneurs.
– Investment initiatives: Guide Agora’s investment initiatives to enhance the flow of capital to entrepreneurs. Support development of the Agora investor network.
– Program partnerships: Lead the development of program partnerships to enhance entrepreneur access to skilled mentors and quality service providers.
– Recruiting and selection: Oversee entrepreneur recruiting and selection, as well as company onboarding, in cooperation with the programs team.
– Alumni consulting services: Ensure continued growth of alumni consulting services in collaboration with the program manager and Accelerator consultants.

Business Development and Operations

– Business development: Foster strategic partnerships regionally and at the country level. Engage in developing fundraising proposals supporting new programs.
– Country level development: Support development of local growth strategies in cooperation with country managers, ensuring the success of Agora’s growth on a country level.
– Earned revenue: Serve as Latin America lead for strategic revenue growth and forecasting, programmatic pricing, and the Agora business model.
– Organizational development: Lead the programs team to have clear objectives, ways of working, and feedback processes. Collaborate with the leadership team in developing and improving organizational design in Latin America. Lead growth and enhancement of the programs and country teams, including engagement in key hiring processes.
– Budget oversight and reporting: Provide inputs for budgets in Latin America in cooperation with Director of Operations and Finance. Support grant reporting, holding programs team accountable against project milestones.

TIMELINE

This position is expected to begin June 15, 2018. This is an independent contractor role based in Mexico City or Bogota.

The Managing Director will be expected to travel in this role, including up to 30 to 40% travel time annually. Trips will include travel to Washington DC to work with the Leadership Team, to Agora country offices in Latin America to collaborate with Agora managers and support execution of local events, for periodic industry conferences, and for program launches at least two times per year.

QUALIFICATIONS

We seek outstanding candidates with the strategic business experience and problem-solving skills necessary to help lead and grow Agora Partnerships in Latin America. The following qualifications are required:
– 10+ years of work experience related to entrepreneurship, management consulting, investing or capital advisory services. Experience in social impact ecosystem recommended.
– Postgraduate degree in business, economics, finance or related degree or equivalent professional experience;
– Experience leading and managing teams of professionals;
– Experience developing and managing business development partnerships;
– Experience building and executing entrepreneurial and investment-oriented programs focused on business growth and access to capital;
– Experience managing consulting oriented organizations;
– Experience with investment processes;
– Experience working with start-up businesses and/or corporates in emerging markets;
I- nternational work experience;
– Fluency in English and Spanish.
