About BURN
Based in Kenya, BURN designs, manufactures, and distributes aspirational fuel-efficient cooking products that save lives and forests in the developing world. BURN has revolutionized the global cookstove sector by proving the business case for selling a high quality, locally manufactured and unsubsidized cookstoves. Since 2013, BURN has sold 1 million+ high quality, locally manufactured cook stoves in East Africa. These stoves have helped 5 million beneficiaries save $325 million in fuel expenditures and 4,157,920 tons of wood while reducing indoor air pollution by 65%. BURN currently sells ~25,000 stoves per month and is expanding further across the continent.

BURN is now poised to bring its revolutionary biomass cookstoves – as well as a new range of electric, hybrid, and liquid fuel stoves to Sub-Saharan Africa & beyond. Over the next 3 years, BURN will enter 6 new countries and launch 5 new products.
About the Role
BURN is looking for a Marketing and Business Development Fellow to help develop, implement, and monitor its ecommerce and digital marketing strategy and build partnerships with key distributors in the North American outdoor market. This individual will work fully remotely and on a part-time basis (estimated 10 hours per week) as a member of their Expansion Team, reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer.

The position has two specific core responsibilities, as well as one additional responsibility that will evolve throughout the duration of the position in line with the North American market strategy.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Digital Marketing
Create engaging content (posts, videos…) across BURN US social media pages, and partner with the local media to run stories that drive awareness on BURN’s products/mission and increase SEO.

2. Ecommerce
Develop and execute their e-commerce strategy in NA, including marketing campaign development and optimization, offline product placements, sales tracking, and achievement of sales targets.

Secondary Responsibilities

3. Business Development
Build meaningful distribution partnerships and ensure optimal distribution and visibility of BURN’s products across multiple B2C and B2B channels in the North American Market.

Desired Skills & Experience:
• Relevant work experience in social media, digital marketing and/or ecommerce.
• Demonstrated experience in successfully delivering business value through digital advertising.
• Good knowledge of SEO, and Google, Facebook, and Amazon advertising platforms.
• Strong prioritization, communication, team collaboration, and project management skills.
• Experience in business development would be a plus.

This role is a part-time 12-month fellowship, fully remote, starting in August 2021.
