Mata Traders is a fair trade fashion company based in Chicago, IL. Our products are handmade by women’s cooperatives and artisan groups in India and Nepal that pay fair wages and provide safe working conditions. We produce two clothing collections and five jewelry collections a year, which are sold in over 600 shops and boutiques around the country and internationally. Our designs mix old-fashioned processes–such as hand loom weaving and hand block printing–with fashion-forward silhouettes and contemporary color palettes. Mata’s mission is to bring fair trade to the forefront of the fashion industry–and in turn, empower women to end global poverty.
We are seeking a Marketing Coordinator to join our collaborative staff. This is a hands-on opportunity to contribute to a growing business with a social mission.
The Marketing Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the execution of the marketing strategy and plan for each collection: responsible for project and traffic management, coordinating creative, graphic and technical colleagues to produce catalogs, deliver email marketing, manage the e-commerce website, and interact with and attract current, new, and potential customers through digital marketing tactics.
The ideal candidate for this role is detail-oriented, organized, and has strong content creation skills for cross-platform strategies. You should understand the basics of writing for email, social and/or web. An aptitude for product styling, visual layout, and aesthetic detail is also preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field, and/or 2 years experience in marketing or public relations
Highly organized and detail oriented
Ability to manage personal and team deadlines
Experience with multitasking and managing multiple projects simultaneously
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to think strategically, identifying how to leverage opportunities to increase customer engagement across marketing channels
Microsoft Excel skills required. Aptitude to understand databases and related technologies; Shopify experience a plus
Deep proficiency in social media and experience managing a brand or organization on Facebook, Instagram, and/or Pinterest
Good eye for design and knowledge of how to use a DSLR camera and/or take high quality photos and videos
Strong writing and editing skills — this role requires you to create content for both print and web
Project and Traffic Management
Manage marketing calendar; ensure teammates meet their deadlines to deliver on marketing collateral, coordinate with design and sales teams to meet cross-departmental deadlines
Manage production of print catalogs, from shoot planning and logistics to product styling, proofing, and catalog submission
Project manager for all marketing collateral including but not limited to lookbooks, linesheets, brochures, and postcards
Oversee and schedule social media and email marketing calendars
Respond to press inquiries
Manage marketing interns
Content Creation and Optimization
Brainstorm and collaborate on the content plan to support each collection/season
Create and/or edit blog posts based on content plan for each collection
Principle Pinterest pinner and create other social media content as needed
Report and evaluate digital marketing metrics, implement occasional customer surveys
Assist in SEO efforts and other digital marketing initiatives
Web product management including new collection uploads
Ensure that all information on the website is accurate
Maintain oversight of website user and admin functions, liaise and troubleshoot with technical staff to address any user interface issues that arise
Represent the company at trade shows, retail sales, and fair trade events, which could include travelling outside of Chicago at least twice a year and working some weekends
Respond to general inquiries about the company, and any non-sales partnerships
Manage twice-annual “focus group” events, during which invited customers provide feedback on upcoming collections
As a member of a small and growing team, the Marketing Coordinator will be called upon from time to time to perform duties outside of the job description
The projected start date for this position is mid to late Sept. The Marketing Coordinator is a full-time position. Normal office hours are 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday–Friday. Expanded hours and willingness to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends, will be expected depending on annual goals, objectives and/or special events.
Mata Traders’ office and warehouse is located in the Andersonville neighborhood of Chicago.
