L-IFT, a new and dynamic development company focused on diaries research, is recruiting interns for a Financial and Energy Diaries (FED) research project to be conducted in Uganda. This diaries research consists of interviewing the same respondents every two weeks over an extended period of six months, in order to get an insight into respondents’ financial behaviour as well as behaviour regarding energy usage.

The research will take place in: Mbale, Manafwa and Tororo; Jinja, Iganga and Mayuge; Mukono, Buikwe and Kayunga and Mbarara, Ntungoma and Sheema districts.
We are looking for 4 potential candidates.

Tasks include:

  • Support in quality assurance of the research
  • Writing weekly blogs about respondents’ cases
  • Helping researchers to take photos and videos
  • Supervision of translation of videos and subtitles
  • Compiling case-studies, both written and visual (video/powerpoint based)
  • Supporting with the closing event for the respondents (if applicable)

Options for in depth work:

  • Writing a publication that gets accepted on one of the microfinance or development websites (e.g.
  • Rewriting and updating our website
  • Conducting own research with our data, e.g. in preparation for a master’s degree
  • Designing and managing a small research experiment


  • Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree (or in the process of attaining one)
  • No work experience necessary
  • Duration of 3 months
  • Start preferably in early September
  • Modest compensation
  • Visa and local travel paid for
  • Travel to Entebbe, Uganda is on own account (not paid for)
  • Insurance and vaccinations on own account (insurance should have international cover including cover for any medical repatriation costs, if necessary)
