Interested in joining a young DC ­based start­up focused on removing financial barriers to

higher­ education? Have you experienced first­ hand the challenge of getting a private student

loan from a bank as an international student or as a resident without a strong co­signer?

MPOWER is a start­up headquartered in the district and believes in broadening access to credit

for financially underserved students on US college campuses.

The role

You’ll be the first point of contact with our student customers. Responsibilities include:

▪ Answering MPOWER’s 1­800 hotline for students

▪ Answering student emails / chats

▪ Supporting students through the loan application process and preparing their credit file

for the credit risk officer to review

▪ Being a liaison with MPOWER’s tech and operations team and reporting any tech

difficulties / challenges encountered by students going through MPOWER’s online loan

application and portal

▪ Being a liaison with MPOWER’s marketing team and reporting any opportunities /

insights gained from interacting with the students

▪ Creating basic reports in word or excel (e.g., tracking student contact volume)

Note: this is a part­time role (10­20 hours per week) that could evolve into a full­time role. A

majority of the work can be done from home. Preference will be given to applicants in the

DC/VA/MD area.

Additional Information

The qualifications

▪ Undergraduate degree

▪ Outstanding written and verbal skills

▪ First hand understanding of MPOWER’s mission; passion for making a positive impact on

students’ lives

▪ Basic understanding of financial services

▪ Customer care experience or banking experience (e.g., teller) is a plus

▪ Fluency in foreign languages is a plus

In addition, the candidate will be comfortable working in a start­up environment, meaning a

small agile team, fast­-evolving roles and responsibilities, variable workload and tight deadlines,

a high degree of autonomy, and 80­-20 everything.
