The mission of the Green Climate Fund is to assist developing countries to respond to climate change while bringing prosperity to their people.
Established in 2010, the GCF invests in transformational climate projects in the developing world. The Fund makes an ambitious contribution to global climate action and channels significant financial resources into developing countries to help build low-emission and climate-resilient societies. It is country-driven and undertakes actions that reflect the circumstances of each country concerned and its national aspirations. The GCF is a key enabler of the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
Since its establishment, the GCF has approved 190 projects and has committed USD 10.0 billion in climate finance. In addition, it has built up an extensive program to support developing countries to identify their needs, in particular, those who are most vulnerable to climate change impacts.

The Paralegal will be part of the Office of the General Counsel and provides general administrative and legal support to the Office of General Counsel. In addition to providing general administrative and legal support, the Paralegal is expected to be familiar with legal documentation so as to edit, proofread and format such documents. The Paralegal will provide basic legal support with minimum supervision in completing standard legal documentation consisting of templates which require familiarity with legal documentation but do not require the skills of a qualified lawyer.
Duties and responsibilities
Preparation of preliminary drafts and formats of standardized legal documentation and reviewing same after editing by lawyers;
Managing, updating and improving tracking system of AMAs and FAAs;
Formatting AMAs and FAAs for execution and liaising with relevant Counsels ensuring quality assurance of these documents;
Conducting legal research and assisting relevant Counsels in their legal research;
Assisting with the preparation of presentations and other materials for Board meetings, conferences and official meetings; and
Undertaking other work as may be assigned by the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel.
Supervising and training colleagues and interns, as well as other junior assistant(s) as may be required;
Liaising with other divisions and offices of the Secretariat as well as Independent Units, as well as with GCF’s external counsel in Korea and abroad; and
Accurately formatting of AMAs, FAAs and other legal instruments and ensuring that there are no errors in these documents.
Timely delivery of draft documents assigned for editing, formatting and initial drafting;
Effective supervision of interns and junior assistants under supervision and accountability for their work product;
Accurate, timely and orderly filing of original documents kept by the Office of General Counsel;
Effective and timely legal research; and
Tangible and efficient support at Board Meetings, conferences and other official meetings;
Seamless, streamlined and collegial collaboration and cooperation with the Team Assistant.
Required experience and qualifications*
College graduate or equivalent with a minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Law graduate is preferred;
Experience in, or working with, developing countries;
Ability to draft, review, edit and format legal documents;
Excellent organizational and administrative skills, initiative to improve and streamline processes;
Excellent analytical and research skills;
Ability to provide effective support to OGC by performing multiple, concurrent and progressively more difficult assignments;
Capacity to work effectively as an individual with minimum supervision and to contribute meaningfully as a team member in line with GCF’s values;
Demonstrated experience with prioritizing multiple assignments, meeting tight deadlines, and willingness to be flexible with a lean staff in a fast-paced environment;
Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability and personality to work collaboratively, accept responsibility, and motivate colleagues;
Possess a cultural sensitivity and adaptability to work and interact with colleagues from diverse backgrounds;
Emotional intelligence and values-driven work ethic;
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential for this position; knowledge of another UN language is an advantage;
Word processing experience and proficient computer skills, particularly in using information databases, internet/intranet services and library sources;
Capacity to work and interact in a multidisciplinary environment; and
Demonstrated openness to change and an ability and willingness to manage complexities.
*The person assessed by the Selection Panel as most suitable for the position will be proposed for appointment. Selection among short-listed candidates will also take into account performance at interview, appropriate testing, and references.
