Position Details

We are seeking a People Operations Manager to support our high-performing, mission-driven team. The People Operations Manager will serve in a key role as a member of the strategy team. The role will act as a partner to managers, supporting people across the organization. The People Operations Manager will own and execute on priority projects, such as improving recruitment and retention systems, enhancing performance management systems, and creating an environment where our people thrive and meet goals.

The People Operations Manager will be joining our team of over 80 professionals with decades of experience in community health, human-centered design, engineering, and public-private partnerships. We have successfully recruited people with a a range of skills to this mission, from data scientists to visual designers and nurses – the People Operations Manager will support a global, diverse, and entrepreneurial team. This is a unique opportunity to build our people operations practices and systems, creating an environment where staff grow with Medic Mobile over time.

This role will report to Medic Mobile’s Chief Operating Officer. The People Operations Manager will be based in the  US (San Francisco, New York, or Atlanta preferred), or in our offices in Nairobi or Kathmandu, with up to 15% travel to our regional offices. We are looking for professionals who combine strong leadership skills with good humor, flexibility, patience, and a humble approach to service.

Key Responsibilities

Culture, Management, Retention

Work with leadership on organizational design and change management, to help maintain a high-performing, motivated, and impactful team
Foster superior performance and accelerated professional growth for all teams and colleagues
Manage our employee handbooks, HR resources, technology platforms, and intranet to ensure that all staff have easy access to appropriate policies and support in a timely manner
Continually monitor and (when necessary) improve upon compensation and benefits package to remain competitive
Coach teams and colleagues on the effective utilization of Asana, Objectives & Key Results (OKRs), 1:1s, and other staples of Medic’s management system
Professionalize, digitize, and accurately maintain all administrative systems within people operations (i.e. employee files / data, leave, etc.)
Seek, select, and coordinate external expert support for legal issues or other special topics
Serve as the global voice for all HR and talent-related issues, to the organization and leadership
Build practical systems to ensure health and safety of staff
Collaborate with leadership to identify and address training and development needs to roll out to staff

Act as a partner to hiring managers across Medic Mobile and coach them on Medic Mobile’s hiring procedure and benefits for new teammates
Conduct initial interviews / screenings for certain positions as determined by COO
Broaden Medic Mobile’s recruitment pipeline, focused on finding regional technical talent
Manage onboarding and offboarding processes for all incoming / outgoing team members
Key Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in HR, public administration, international development or related field
Graduate experience in organizational psychology or public administration considered a plus
6+ year(s) of work experience and a demonstrated passion for staff development
Exceptional empathy. Must have above average emotional intelligence and experience supporting a diverse group of individuals
Strong project management skills and ability to manage tight deadlines and multiple time sensitive tasks simultaneously
Demonstrated ability to create safe space and solicit honest feedback from diverse groups
Proven ability to build relationships and deepen connections with people across nationalities, cultures, genders, and generations
Ability to thrive in a fast past workplace with limited resources
Experience with remote workplaces and with remote team management
Demonstrated passion for building teams, finding talent, building relationships and tackling challenging people-related issues
