Acumen Pakistan seeks an experienced Portfolio Associate to help build and manage our world-class investment portfolio of game-changing enterprises in Pakistan that impact the poor.

Acumen has been investing in Pakistan since 2002 and established Acumen Pakistan (formerly Acumen Fund Pakistan) in 2006, as a local non-profit entity. We currently have over $16 million in committed investments in Pakistan and an additional pipeline of investments currently in various stages of due diligence. The office is staffed with a full-time team of professionals with prior backgrounds in social enterprise, corporate and investment banking, and business and strategy consulting. We have a strong Advisory Board and partner community consisting of senior business leaders. The Pakistan team is supported by Acumen\’s global portfolio team as well as business and development professionals in Pakistan who provide investment management advice through the year.
The Portfolio Associate will be an integral member of the Acumen portfolio team reporting to the Director of Portfolio, and will be working closely with portfolio team members to develop and manage Acumen’s investment portfolio in Pakistan. The Associate will also work with other members of Acumen’s portfolio team to identify, analyze and structure prospective investments as well as facilitate/provide ongoing management and technical assistance for existing investments in Pakistan. Additionally, the Associate will work with other team members to develop and ensure the implementation of core portfolio processes.
Specific responsibilities include:
+ Identify, cultivate and execute a pipeline of fresh investment opportunities providing critical services to the poor
+ Monitor performance of existing investments on a monthly and quarterly basis and prepare performance reports for senior portfolio team and Management. Conduct detailed reviews of key business areas to get a closer pulse of investee performance
+ Execute on Acumen’s management assistance initiatives to investees to help them achieve their business plan objectives – under the oversight of their supervisor
+ Identify and conduct due diligence – in conjunction with other portfolio team members – on companies with proven or promising market based approaches to addressing challenges of poverty in Pakistan and other Acumen geographies
+ Preparing and presenting detailed investment documentation for Acumen Senior Management, Acumen’s Investment Committee, and the Acumen Board of Directors
+ Generate knowledge from our global investments for sharing with key stakeholders in Pakistan to influence the broader stakeholders in the country
+ Assist in achieving the goals of other core functions, including fundraising, communications and talent
Qualifications & Characteristics
+ Bachelors degree in Business and/or Finance.
+ Ability to build and analyze financial models and evaluate debt/equity term sheets; ability and experience in preparing Investment Memos
+ 3+ years experience in finance, i-banking, business development/strategy or related areas for private sector organization. Individuals with background in private equity/venture capital and investment banking are strongly encouraged to apply
+ Very strong financial and business analysis skills as demonstrated by prior experience
+ Understanding of Pakistani financial markets and regulatory environment is a plus
+ Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to present arguments and analysis in a clear and succinct manner to Acumen management, partners and investees
+ Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to manage relationships with investees as well as external bench of partners and advisors
+ Fluency in English and Urdu
+ Commitment to accuracy, attention to detail and follow-through
+ Permanent work authorization in Pakistan
