MCE Social Capital (MCE) is seeking Portfolio Managers who will support all aspects of MCE’s portfolio operations, including: deal sourcing, due diligence, financial analysis, deal structuring and performance monitoring across its two product lines:
Small and Growing Businesses (SGBs)
Microfinance Institutions (MFIs)
Two Portfolio Managers positions are open:
Latin America – based in San Francisco, USA
Caucasus & Central Asia – based in Barcelona, Spain
All MCE Portfolio Managers have a primary region of responsibility (as above) and also work in at least another region of the world, fully owning several countries.
An ideal candidate will possess the skills, abilities and the engagement that will allow him/her to quickly take over relationships with existing clients, generate pipeline and conclude investments, and recommend a long-term strategy for the countries under management.

The Portfolio Manager reports directly to the Chief Investment Officer and will be part of a team of five Portfolio Managers and two Portfolio Analysts.
Portfolio Managers work with and supervise the work of Portfolio Analysts.
Lead debt finance transactions:
Business development and deal screening for MFIs and SGBs
Term sheet negotiation
Financial modeling and analysis
Country risk analysis
Investment structuring and risk mitigation
Approval process, including presentation of loans to MCE’s Loan Committee
Proper management and execution of all investment legal documents
Portfolio Monitoring & Analysis:
Monitor on-going financial and operational performance of clients
Analyze country risks and trends
Restructurings and workouts
Collect and monitor social impact data across MCE’s portfolio, including credit plus services offered by active partners. Contribute to impact analysis for annual Guarantor report, Board memos, and general MCE communication.
Strategy and Process Improvement:
Support the CIO and the Senior Management team in refining the portfolio strategy (sector, geography, etc.) and enabling process improvements.
We are looking for individuals with a “can do” attitude, who are passionate about supporting businesses in developing countries. The candidates are able to work in a dynamic environment, have entrepreneurial drive, an analytical mind with extreme attention to detail, and pride in the quality of their work. In addition, the following qualifications are necessary:
Minimum of eight years of full-time professional experience.
Minimum of two years of direct investing experience.
Minimum of one year working in or with developing countries.
Fluency in English and Russian or French (Barcelona position). Fluency in English and Spanish (San Francisco position).
Strong understanding of financial accounting: must be able to quickly analyze financial statements, draw conclusions, and produce questions.
Thorough knowledge of Excel and ability to create complex financial models.
Strong operational experience either in agriculture, energy, business or manufacturing processes a plus.
Self-motivated, proactive and able to work with minimal supervision. Detail-oriented.
Strong work ethics and team player.
Passionate about social and sustainable development.
Willingness to travel about 6-8 times (8-16 weeks) a year.
Barcelona, Spain (EU citizenship required) for the Central Asia & Caucasus position
San Francisco, USA (US citizen or green card required) for the Latin America position
