Developing World Markets (DWM) specializes in asset management for microfinance and other socially positive businesses in developing countries. We have invested debt or equity in over 140 microfinance institutions (MFIs) across more than 40 countries worldwide. The Private Equity team consists of seven professionals, manages approximately USD $150 million in private equity capital, and recently closed its second private equity fund.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive and in-depth company, country and industry research
  • Assist in executing private equity transactions
  • Develop and maintain detailed financial models for evaluating potential investments
  • Prepare detailed memorandums or investment proposals for acquisitions and exit opportunities
  • Assist in the drafting of transaction documents, marketing materials and memorandums
  • Assist in deal negotiation and structuring and review of legal documentation
  • Participate in due diligence trips abroad to assess potential portfolio companies
  • Support ongoing monitoring of portfolio companies, including monthly operational and financial performance and preparation for quarterly board meetings
  • Support the active management of portfolio companies, including development and implementation of strategic initiatives, such as debt and equity raising, senior management selection and training, product development, strategic partnerships and others
  • Evaluate exit opportunities for current portfolio
  • Conduct asset- and portfolio-level analyses
  • Represent the company in regional inclusive finance and social impact conferences
  • Communicate and interact with internal and external senior executives
  • Respond to due diligence requests for funds under management
  • Interact with the risk, fund management, debt and capital markets teams on various private equity initiatives.
  • Manage Special Projects as necessary

Qualifications

  • Two to five years of experience in investment banking, asset management, private equity, management consulting, and/or deal-oriented financial analysis; emerging markets or financial institutions experience is a plus
  • A college or graduate degree; undergraduate financial or business related concentration and/or MBA is a plus
  • Interest and commitment to social / economic development
  • Knowledge of or experience in the microfinance or financial institutions sector is desirable
  • Demonstrated significant quantitative skills (including financial modeling and valuation skills), strategic and creative thinking abilities
  • Strong understanding of financial statements and advanced MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Ability to manage multiple high priority projects and work effectively both as an individual and as part of a team
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • Must show mature personal and business judgment and ability to represent firm in private and public events
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Written and spoken fluency or proficiency in Asian languages is a plus
  • Maturity and ability to work independently and at times remotely
  • Proof of ability to work in Singapore.
