The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking a Programme Lead to provide technical and managerial leadership to GAIN’s Nutritious Foods Financing programme. This role can be based in London, Nairobi or Utrecht and is offered intially on a one year fixed-term contract (with the possibility of extension subject to funding).

GAIN is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, they aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people. In particular, they aim to make healthier food choices more desirable, more available, and more affordable. GAIN’s mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially those most vulnerable to malnutrition.

About the role

Reporting to the Cluster Lead, Supply Chain for Nutritious Foods, The Programme Lead will be responsible for deepening and developing GAIN’s Nutritious Foods Financing programmatic strategy and work plan, supporting resource mobilisation efforts through strong donor engagement and ensuring the highest quality in the Nutritious Foods Financing programme and its related projects.

The postholder will also be responsible for raising new funds for technical assistance, M&E, and policy advocacy on SME financing and raising the profile of the Nutritious Foods Financing programme area internally and externally.

Role specifics will include;

Supporting the finalization of the structure of the Nutritious Foods Financing Fund (N3F), including managing GAIN’s N3F advisors.
Managing the relationship with the fund manager. Managing the development of, execution of, and compliance with the fund’s partnership agreements and legal documents, including oversight of the Luxembourg-based facility.
Managing in-country pipeline surveys and analysis
Managing the in-house design of GAIN’s metrics for N3F, in close consultation with GAIN’s Knowledge Leadership team
Ensuring that and articulating how the N3F strategy aligns with GAIN’s overall strategy, global good practice
Representing GAIN at senior level for relevant events, international meetings and fora, and to support on the development of GAIN-led workshops and conferences on N3F and impact investing for nutrition
Working closely with GAIN Development Office and Knowledge Leadership teams, lead and contribute to the development of proposals.
Raising new funding for GAIN’s N3F programming, and promoting GAIN’s reputation with donors
Prospecting for and identify new calls for proposals of relevance to N3F.
Identifying new and existing donors, building and maintaining relationships through regular and open engagement
Supporting an understanding of finance, blended finance, and impact within GAIN

About you

Candidates must have professional knowledge and experience in donor-funded development work in health and nutrition with a strong focus on private-sector involvement.

You will have experience working with governments, international organizations, and NGOs both at the global and country level with a focus on impact investing and blended finance. You will have proven experience and a successful track record of managing donor-funded projects or programs, and a demonstrable history of success in resource mobilization for social impact funds or similar initiatives.

You will have a strong understanding and ability to speak competently about impact investment in health and nutrition with potential donors and you will have some operational experience and understanding of the investment cycle (i.e sourcing, due dilligence, terms development, investment and harvesting from a social impacting perspective). Excellent proposal writing and presentation skills are essential, and candidates must have exceptional managerial skills alongside strong influencing, and stakeholder management skills.

Starting salary for this role is listed per location below, depending on expeirence;

London, United Kingdom – From 52, 637 – 56, 395 GBP per annum

Nairobi, Kenya – From 4,571, 040 – 5,224, 046 KES per annum

Utrecht, The Netherlands – 65, 713 – 70,406 EUR per annum
