Reboot is a social impact firm devoted to public sector innovation. We work with change agents who care about creating a better future—within governments, foundations, international organizations, media, and civil society groups.

We are seeking a Program Manager to lead project teams and work. This person will be engaged in a range of projects across our international and domestic portfolios; in the near-term, work may include projects related to open government, media development, and civic innovation, with the potential for a substantive amount of international work. The Program Manager will lead teams in conducting research; designing and implementing services, programs, and policies; and managing internal knowledge processes. The Program Manager will play a pivotal role in achieving Reboot’s goal of bringing complex, multi-stakeholder governance and development programs into reality in challenging and resource-constrained contexts.

Our ideal candidate is deeply committed to the issues Reboot works on, and has the intellectual courage and curiosity to develop innovative new solutions. You are equally comfortable facilitating workshops with senior government officials in Washington, DC, as you are prototyping services with new mothers at a health clinic in rural Nigeria. You are enterprising and have the chops to become a star all on your own, but you value being part of a multidisciplinary team. You are a systems thinker, who is both detail and solutions oriented.

This is a full-time position based in our New York office, with the expectation of significant travel during project periods.

Responsibilities:
Project Work (70%)

Lead projects from start to finish, which includes research, design, implementation, and evaluation.

Oversee project management structures and protocol, including timelines, team and stakeholder communications, budgets, and field logistics.
Manage key relationships with clients and partners through proactive communication and successful project execution, always with a strong focus on optimizing the partnership experience.

Manage project staff and consultants, ensuring their timely and effective inputs. Ensure the high performance of project staff, subcontractors, and consultants; provide additional training or support as needed.
Manage collaborations with diverse subject matter experts, both internal teams and external consultants.

Lead the synthesis of deep research (primarily ethnographic, design, and political economy, with light quantitative), and their translation into robust services, policies, and program designs.

Lead storytelling and documentation activities around project work. Work with project teams, writers/editors, and communications designers to produce concise and compelling technical writing, and integrate it with strong visual design.

Communications and Business Development (20%)

Create and cultivate partnerships around new opportunities. Educate clients and partners on Reboot’s unique approach, and lead development conversations on project scope, methodology, and outputs.

Contribute to Reboot’s advocacy work by publishing articles and blog posts, speaking at or attending events, contributing to Reboot’s online presence, and giving talks or lectures.

Contribute to development of technical and financial proposals for opportunities that align with your expertise and background.

Knowledge Management & Process Innovation (10%)

Contribute to process innovation within Reboot to improve organizational agility, efficiency, and impact.

Ensure lessons from industry best practices and client engagements are effectively integrated across Reboot’s work.

Ensure frequent knowledge transfer between programmatic team members and technical specialists, and support cross-pollination of expertise across the organization.

Requirements:
An ideal candidate has:

At least 5 years of relevant professional experience, ideally in a fast-paced and growing company, social enterprise, or nonprofit.

Graduate degree in a relevant field, including but not limited to international development, public policy, public administration, economics, political science, anthropology, or journalism.

Strong systems thinker with experience researching, designing, and implementing social impact initiatives preferably related to open government, media development, and/or civic technology or a related content area.
Proven track record of training and managing multidisciplinary teams and consortia to execute on projects, including experience managing staff, subcontractors and consultants.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively synthesize and present complex ideas to diverse audiences.
Significant (preferably international) work experience in low resource settings and ability to operate effectively in unfamiliar cultural contexts and poor infrastructure environments.

Experience leading qualitative research exercises; expertise applied ethnography, generative design research, political economy analysis, or institutional ethnography is a plus.

Superb workshop facilitation skills, proven facility with public speaking and managing partner/client interactions.

Excellent technical writing skills.

Ability to work under tight time constraints. Can multitask with ease and adapt to frequently changing priorities.

Full professional proficiency in Spanish, French, or Arabic is strongly preferred.
Appreciation of complexity. Comfort with ambiguity. A sense of humor. Fan of cute office pups.
