ACCELERATOR PROGRAMS, SENIOR ASSOCIATE
+Acumen is seeking a Senior Associate to lead the ongoing development and operations of our virtual accelerator programs.
Acumen is changing the way the world tackles poverty by investing in companies, leaders and ideas. We invest patient capital in businesses whose products and services are enabling the poor to transform their lives. Founded by Jacqueline Novogratz in 2001, Acumen has invested more than $115 million in 113 companies across Africa, Latin America, South Asia and the United States. We are also developing a global community of emerging leaders with the knowledge, skills and determination to create a more inclusive world. In 2015, Acumen was named one of Fast Company’s Top 10 Most Innovative Not-for-Profit Companies.
In service of Acumen’s mission to change the way the world tackles poverty, our +Acumen team is building the world’s school for social change—a global learning community for social entrepreneurs and intrapraneurs. +Acumen aims to equip passionate people with the tools, insights and community to step up and tackle problems of poverty. We do this in two ways:
+ We offer online learning experiences that help to democratize access to the best tools to change systems which keep people entrenched in poverty
+ We find the “best” people and connect them to Acumen and each other at scale
To date +Acumen has reached over 400,000 people from 192 countries through its courses.
We design and run a range of online learning experiences across different platforms. These courses collectively focus on delivering practical learning to social entrepreneurs and social intrapraneurs all over the world. Over the last year, we’ve been working to develop new online accelerator programs that support select nonprofit leaders, corporate innovators, and social entrepreneurs to incubate new innovations while working in small, diverse virtual cohorts. To date 50 nonprofit organizations have participated in our inaugural accelerator (http://eiaccelerator.
Where You Come In
You will lead the operations of our accelerator programs. This includes streamlining operations of existing programs and helping us launch new accelerator programs. You will be on the frontlines of participant engagement, designing operations and directly facilitate the learning experience.
More specifically, you will have the opportunity to:
+ Lead the recruitment and selection of accelerator participants
+ Onboard participants to the learning experience (creating user accounts, running the orientation session, refresh all learning materials)
+ Facilitate virtual “Learning Lab” sessions during the accelerator programs and manage a team of other contract facilitators
+ Support participants on a weekly basis during the accelerator programs including responding to inquiries, holding individual consultations as needed, and compiling weekly feedback reports
+ Recruit guest experts to provide further coaching to participants
Monitor the overall accelerator experience and identify opportunities for improvement and redesign
+ Support the development of new accelerator programs and curriculum, and other synchronous online learning programs as needed
+ Work with our technology and systems team to identify new tools and platforms needed for accelerators and integrate them with our existing systems
+ Build a network of accelerator alumni and help connect them to further learning opportunities and resources
+ Success in this role will be defined by your ability to get up to speed quickly with the accelerator curricula and play a hands-on role in supporting participants. You should be energized by working directly with participants and seeking to foster a collaborative learning community online. You should be comfortable managing relationships with a variety of stakeholders and feel comfortable mastering the large and small details of program delivery. You should be comfortable with online learning platforms and able to independently and effectively troubleshoot technical issues. Ideally, you should be experienced with facilitating other social innovation, lean startup, or social entrepreneurship programs or courses–or have an eagerness to quickly get up to speed with these fields and approaches.
Who You Are
You’re operations-minded and interested in facilitating online learning experiences. You’re responsive to learner questions, able to respond gracefully to a range of inquiries, and capable of setting expectations appropriately while delivering value to paying customers. You are able to work quickly and respond flexibly and strategically as we work to run existing programs, while launching new ones. You’re a team player who shares Acumen’s values. You’re a thinker-doer, skilled writer, with a mindset for flawless execution.
+ Natural facilitator or teacher with a minimum of 3-6 years of relevant professional experience who feels comfortable engaging people online
+ Detail-oriented project manager who is able to effectively coordinate all program components on a schedule and manage a team of contract facilitators
+ Critical thinker accustomed to working, problem solving and collaborating thoughtfully in a fast-paced environment
+ Digital native able to quickly get up to speed with a variety of online platforms and tools including Slack, Teachable, Bluejeans, and others
+ Effective collaborator able to work with different colleagues and personalities, at all levels both externally and internally, and across a variety of functions and geographies
+ Flexible and fast-paced problem solver who recognizes that the online learning field is evolving quickly, and will be eager to help us keep the accelerator experience fresh — or develop entirely new learning programs as market demands change
+ BONUS: experience facilitating social entrepreneurship, social innovation, or lean startup programs or curriculum
+ BONUS: experience working with online learning platforms or building online courses
+ BONUS: experience offering user support
+ Permanent U.S. work authorization
Additional characteristics we look for in all roles at Acumen:
+ Commitment to and enthusiasm for the organization’s mission to change the way the world tackles poverty, and respect for our core values: generosity, accountability, humility, audacity, listening, leadership, integrity and respect
+ Ability to thrive when there is ambiguity, remain cool-headed when there are curve balls, and withstand the tests of a rapidly changing environment with resilience and resolve
+ A sense of humor (really)
Acumen offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience, including benefits.
