Accion’s Center for Financial Inclusion seeks a new team member with 2+ years of professional work experience in operational support and project management in international development. This person will provide a range of administrative, communications, web research, and project operations support in English and French to a small, entrepreneurial team in relation to financial inclusion consumer protection initiatives focused on sub-Saharan African (SSA) and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regions.

The Senior Associate will support the staff of the Smart Campaign, specifically the Lead Specialist and Senior Policy Advisor for Africa, by managing donor reporting, supporting the organization of convenings and contracting of consultants, and communicating with Anglophone and Francophone financial inclusion stakeholders interested in working with the Campaign. The Senior Associate is also responsible for ensuring that key resources are translated for Francophone participants, and that the website is up to date. This position will manage the Francophone community of practice.

The Senior Associate will support the staff of the Smart Campaign by writing and editing communications and marketing  collateral such as blogs, e-newsletters, policy memos as well as assisting the Campaign in tracking and measuring the impact of its activities.   This position will also contribute to due diligence research and supports the Senior Africa Specialists’ activities’ implementation on the ground – particularly in Uganda, Benin, Rwanda, Nigeria, and Ghana. Based in Washington DC, this person will be a critical team member when it comes to ensuring and promoting internal communications, project and process management for all of the Campaign and CFI teams.

The ideal candidate is well-organized, excellent and rapid web researcher, good information synthesizer, a fast learner, self-starter, comfortable communicating and engaging with diverse audiences, a strong, concise writer, fluent in French and English and has specific experiences in international economic development, operations support, and/or communications.


Provide technical support to partners and key stakeholders and serve a key first reference for inquiries, particularly for grants and key materials management; especially Francophone stakeholders.
Support the Campaign’s work in Africa and MENA through operational and administrative assistance as well as monitoring/tracking Campaign activities in the region and regional events (Examples: Assistance in organizing trainings in Africa through coordination with hotel, vendors and in preparation and organization of training materials).
Research and prepare regular reports detailing activities and influence in the region.
Assist with SSA and MENA Certification pipeline management.

Provide ongoing support for the execution of the Campaign’s client protection research and learning agenda in SSA.
Execute strategic research projects as needed on a regular basis and help with due diligence mapping of potential partners, new markets, and other key learning questions.
Assist with preparation of reports detailing Campaign activities and milestones for donors, management, & advisory board.
Prepare written communications related to Campaign work and financial inclusion sector in Africa.
Manage maintenance of Campaign’s French website ( and French social media by liaising with Communication teams to ensure that materials are up-to-date and translated. Coordinate Smart Campaign communication materials on client protection issues by editing or writing materials for internal and external reviews in English and French (Examples: Press releases, e-newsletters, website pages).
Where applicable, translate short communications materials and video text into French and conduct quality checks on materials already-translated.
Keep the Campaign up to date on relevant news articles published in French through Google Alerts.


Recent college graduate with a degree in international development, communications, or related field.
Fluency in written and spoken French is required.
2+ years of professional work experience required; international experience preferred.
Excellent communication (writing and speaking) skills are important. Must be able to express thoughts and opinions clearly and concisely.
Editing and copywriting experience, particularly with policy and/or marketing materials; strong attention to detail.
Strong computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Excel is important.
Website design and basic website maintenance experience preferred..
Ability to manage workload, meet deadlines, and multi-task across multiple projects and priorities.
Experience collaborating/interacting with individuals at all levels of an organization.
Ability to work as a team member as well as independently.
Knowledge of CRM platforms (Sales Force), MailChimp and/or HTML coding preferred.
