BUILD’s unique program offers students a four-year entrepreneurship experience designed to develop 21st Century Skills and motivate student engagement in school. Starting in 9th grade, BUILD students work with their peers and community mentors to develop business ideas, pitch to funders and launch real businesses. As students journey through high school and continue to grow their businesses, BUILD helps them explore college and career options, and assists students with the college application process. Entrepreneurship is the spark – college, career, and life success are the goals.

The Senior Manager, Donor Engagement (SMDE) will further BUILD’s mission by being a creative, strategic, and thoughtful member of the Boston Development Team. The SMDE is responsible for cultivating relationships with donors and engaging them in the organization’s programs and activities with the goal of increasing philanthropic support. The SMDE will maintain and grow our constituent portfolio of individual donors, crafting and implementing donor stewardship strategies, and increasing the number of annual donors who have the capacity to give $5,000+ gifts. This is an exceptional opportunity to play a key role in contributing to the organization’s growth and ensure that BUILD has a vibrant culture of philanthropy. This position is a member of the Boston Development Team and reports to the Boston Director of Philanthropy.
Individual Donor Acquisition Strategy: Serve as Boston’s resident individual giving expert, co-creating strategy and managing the day-to-day operations of the individual giving and monthly giving programs.
Portfolio Management: Successfully steward a portfolio of individuals, prioritizing donors with the capacity to give $5k+, to ensure proper and timely cultivation, solicitation and recognition of donors, ongoing engagement and accurate record keeping using BUILD’s CRM tools.
Events & Donor Engagement Opportunities: Plan, develop, and oversee the implementation of donor events, program highlight reports, and other creative stewardship strategies throughout the year to keep donors engaged in events, programs or projects they have helped fund, and encourage renewal and increased donor support
Community Building: Develop and oversee a BUILD ambassador program, helping our community of supporters feel empowered to be effective stewards of the mission particularly around peer-to-peer fundraising and external affairs
Associate Board Management: Lead the Boston Associate Board, overseeing quarterly meetings, member recruitment and retention; work collaboratively with the Boston Director of Mentor & Community Engagement and Manager of Strategic Partnerships on committee involvement, including mobilizing the Associate Board to support mentor recruitment, corporate sponsorships, and special events
Staff Partnership: Leverage the National Assistant Director of Donor Engagement, Boston Leadership Team, and Boston Development Team on strategy development and implementation to deepen and solidify individual donor relationships; work as a collaborative member of the Boston Development Team, promoting a positive work environment and assisting in other development projects as needed.
Passionate commitment to BUILD’s mission, vision, and strategic direction
At least 3-5 years of fundraising from individual donors cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a diverse portfolio of four, five, & six figure gifts
Successful background of crafting, refining and/or managing a well-respected brand across a variety of communications platforms
Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills; including the ability to develop and strengthen internal and external relationships and serve as a compelling spokesperson for BUILD in person and through a variety of mediums
Ability to thrive effectively in a creative, dynamic, deadline-driven environment with humor
Excellent attention to detail, project and process management skills, including experience using CRM software

Location: Boston; this role functions mostly remote with a requirement of at least one day in person at our BUILD office spaces. BUILD is currently operating entirely virtual in response to the COVID-19 health crisis. Updates to this may change at any time.
Occasional travel is required during the year for BUILD events and gatherings nationally.
The salary for Senior Manager of Donor Engagement ranges from $75-85k in accordance with BUILD’s equity focused salary bands. BUILD offers a competitive benefits package for eligible employees.
