Organization description and opportunity

Waste Ventures India is a Hyderabad-based for-profit social enterprise that is changing paradigms in solid waste management by increasing value to stakeholders across the value chain. We environmentally process wet and dry waste, creating revenue from materials that traditional solid waste systems ignore. We are not content in creating a profitable venture; we improve waste-picker livelihoods, increase agricultural productivity, and incentivize others to follow our lead.

Our Recycling vertical is growing rapidly. We have recently secured partnerships with multinational packaging and FMCG companies to provide professionalized waste management services that interface with over 25,000 households, numerous additional corporate partners and waste pickers. We seek a tenacious and analytical leader in the role of Senior Manager, Recycling to direct the strategy and operations of new business lines in our core waste areas (paper, plastics, Tetra Pak) as an intrapraneur within our Recycling vertical.

The Senior Manager, Recycling will build and lead an entire recycling business unit, including the following responsibilities:

1) Direct the overall strategy for the service line

· Analyze and identify recyclable materials with high revenue and impact potential by talking to potential buyers, conducting field visits, and gaining expertise on recyclable materials

· Determine the most strategic level(s) for WVI’s intervention in the value chain (i.e. collection, aggregation, and/or processing), within the specific waste type (paper, plastics, Tetra Pak)

2) Establish and execute efficient project operations for recyclables collection and processing

· Map and execute pilot studies of potential primary and secondary collection sources

· Determine pricing strategy for processed or un-processed materials (e.g. volume-based pricing)

· Set up dry waste center, including infrastructure procurement, center design, vehicle logistics

· Research, pilot and potentially establish innovative and appropriate recycling technologies

· Implement customer service processes for waste collection from households and corporates

3) Establish market for processed recyclable material

· Identify distribution channels and markets for processed recyclables by material type and quality

· Map and negotiate partnerships with buyers of processed materials in local or global markets

4) Direct overall team and project management for the service line

· Manage and build a growing team, including collection and operations staff

· Lead recruitment and onboarding of new team members

· Set business unit / team goals and monthly budgets

· Manage existing global/local partnerships and develop proposals and pitch to new potential partners as required by business strategy

· Provide ongoing reporting to company leadership and Board of Directors

· Help build an advisory team with expertise in recyclables and waste management

Beyond the specific aforementioned core objectives, the role will have the following responsibilities:

· Collaborate closely with other team members

· Provide support in varied areas beyond the job description, as needed

· High-performing undergraduate background required, graduate degree preferred

· 3 – 6 years of professional experience, preferably with background in project management or operations
