Summary:
Seeking an innovative instructor to run a comprehensive program around social entrepreneurship. The instructor will deliver Cambio Labs’ curriculum to a small class size of 10-12 students of 11th/12th graders, using our technology platform and instructional toolkits.Background to 2023-2024 Engagement:
Cambio Labs will partner with Brooklyn STEAM Center as an independent contractor to deliver a social entrepreneurship incubator experience.Cambio Labs creates educational technology and curricular programs that turn students into social entrepreneurs, designers for impact, and community leaders. Our partners at the Brooklyn STEAM Center offer a unique and hands-on curriculum aimed at preparing students for future careers in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.Program Description:
The Social Entrepreneurship Program is a course where student entrepreneurs work with teammates to ideate, pitch, prototype, and launch their own organizations driven by social and environmental missions. Participants will receive accounts for the Journey platform, an innovative learning platform developed by the Cambio Labs team.Description of the Role:The Social Entrepreneurship Instructor will be responsible for delivering our curriculum and cultivating an engaging, student-centered learning environment. Real-world problem-solving, collaborative project-based learning, and community engagement will be hallmarks of the student experience.

The Instructor will also be responsible for curricular development and reporting, and this responsibility is included in the salary calculation.

Live Instruction & Program Delivery (4 hours/wk, in-person, live classroom instruction)
Deliver Cambio Labs’ curriculum with a focus on student-centered learning, problem-solving, and community engagement.
Utilize the Journey platform (our proprietary gamified learning management system) for program delivery.
Facilitate the development of essential workplace competencies including communication, collaboration, adaptability, technology skills, and project management.
Guide students in identifying social or environmental issues, forming teams, conducting field research in the local community, creating prototypes, and pitching their initiatives.
Complete essential instructional duties, including: lesson planning, regular assessment of student work, attendance-keeping, and managing teaching assistants or interns
Manage the final pitch event, including coordinating prizes, event preparation, calculating judges’ assessments, and announcing winners.

Curricular Development and Reporting (6 hours/wk, virtual)
Weekly meeting with the Cambio Labs education team to discuss instructional strategy, receive feedback, and logistical planning
Review and adapt lesson plans and learning materials based on feedback and evolving needs
Ensure ongoing reporting and data collection regarding students’ attendance, engagement, and academic performance.
Act as the primary contact for the program for internal and external partners.
Offering feedback and suggestions for improvement on platform and curriculum.

Required Qualifications
Proven experience in instructing courses rooted in project-based and experiential learning.
Proficiency in managing innovative classrooms, leading discussions, mentoring, and providing constructive feedback to students.
Fluency in discussing issues related to race, inequity, and systemic oppression
Familiarity with design thinking, lean startup, and social entrepreneurship theories and methodologies is crucial. An ability to quickly absorb knowledge and teaching guidelines is also necessary.
Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work independently and adapt to changing circumstances.
Experience in public speaking and classroom management.

Compensation:

Total compensation for the term: $7,000 commensurate with experience.

The position requires approximately 10 hours per week, including in-person classroom instruction and additional duties as described above. The program will run for a total of 17 weeks between mid October of 2023 and end of March of 2024. Please review a detailed schedule here.

The Instructor will be employed as an independent contractor and will be responsible for their own income tax filing and procedures. No additional benefits included.
