SUMMER ASSOCIATE – LEAN DATA
Acumen is looking for a dynamic self-starter with 2-4 years’ experience who has strong project management abilities, superior attention to detail, action-orientated and a passion for using data to solve problems of poverty. You will join our New York Lean Data team to support our Lean Data Product Manager in building a new technology platform and community to make it easier for social enterprises to listen to their customers.
Acumen is changing the way the world tackles poverty by investing in companies, leaders and ideas. We invest patient capital in businesses whose products and services are enabling the poor to transform their lives. Founded by Jacqueline Novogratz in 2001, Acumen has invested more than $111 million in 104 companies across Africa, Latin America, South Asia and the United States. We are also developing a global community of emerging leaders with the knowledge, skills and determination to create a more inclusive world. In 2015, Acumen was named one of Fast Company’s Top 10 Most Innovative Not-for-Profit Companies.
About Lean Data
In addition to investing in companies, Acumen also works on initiatives that create wider change in the social sector. One of our leading initiatives is the development, execution and promotion of our cutting-edge social performance and customer insights data service called Lean Data. We built Lean Data to help companies more effectively listen to customers and to incorporate impact measurement and customer-centricity into business as usual. Using low-cost technology and methods, Lean Data gathers high-quality data quickly and efficiently, directly from end-customers. To date, Acumen has spread Lean Data across the whole of its own portfolio and since 2016, we began implementing Lean Data for external clients such as Omidyar Network, DFID/CDC, Injaro, SEDF, The Gates Foundation and others.
The Lean Data Summer Associate will support the Lean Data Product Manager in building out a new self-service technology platform and community to make it easy for social enterprises to gather great user feedback to understand and improve their social and business performance. This Associate will have a front row seat to Acumen’s innovation in action as we are in the early stages of building this platform. This Associate will also have the opportunity to wear a number of hats across marketing, product, and community.
More specifically, you may have the opportunity to:
+ Run beta tests and on-board new users onto the platform
+ Generate insights from data and user research to help the team make informed product decisions and measure success
+ Conduct market research and landscape survey of analogous business models
+ Build an amazing user-journey experience for our community of Lean Data practitioners
+ Operationalize a pilot program to train social enterprises in how to customize and design Lean Data methodologies for their organizations.
+ Support in developing high impact Lean Data success stories and use cases for marketing and sales to leverage
+ Contribute to our email newsletter with your writing and curation skills
